Vehicle Detail

First of all, this is a real auction. We will not be ending it early, there is no "buy it now" price, and there is no minimum reserve to be met. We are starting it at $100 and the high bidder will win, regardless of the final bid amount. Also, no silly games here like "you are bidding to own". We are representing it as accurately, honestly and completely as we can. Please come see it for yourself if possible, but if you can't, just know this: If you win, get here and feel like it wasn't what I said it was, you can walk away with no commitment. So, I promise it is what I describe and if not, you can walk away. You can check our feedback to see that we are one of eBays largest powersports dealers, but this is my personal toy, I am not a car dealer. This car has an interesting story. Read on to hear it all. Car: The car is a 1971 Chevelle Station Wagon. I assume it is a Concours but I am not certain as it isn't marked. There are also Greenbriar wagons and I don't know how to tell the difference. The car has factory front disc brakes, tilt steering wheel, power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning. All of the AC components are in place and I was told by the previous owner that it works fine when charged but I have never charged it. The prior owner also tells me that the 71,904 miles it is showing are original, however I cannot guarantee that and you should not assume it to be true, it is however, believable based on its condition. The engine is a newer model 454 big block and is not original. It appears to me to be a 90s model and the previous owner tells me it was a new GM crate engine installed at 60k miles, but again, I have no documentation on that. The car has the factory, 10 bolt rear end and it is high geared and not a posi. It does have the original warranty info, owners manual and protecto plate, all in mint condition. Here is where it gets interesting. In the mid 90s, the car was customized to its current state. It was lowered modestly with after-market coil springs. The tires and wheels were installed along with the 454, Turbo 400, and custom interior. Of course it also got the obligatory 90s, thumping sound system and goofy looking stripes. I am confident it looked great in 1995 and fit the era in terms of style. I am also told it was in a magazine at the time. The prior owner bought it, in its customized state, from a hot rod dealer in Florida in 1998. They paid over $18,000 for it and I saw the check stub and invoice proving it. That owner drove it very infequently to cruise-ins and car shows and stopped driving it completely around 2000 when her husband divorced her. It sat in the garage for a couple years then in the back yard for several more years. That is where I rescued it from in the fall of 2009. As you can imagine it was completely covered in tree sap and bird droppings and the paint job was ruined. You can tell it was sharp at the time of the build but is now covered by a million tiny paint chips left by the tree sap. Other than that though, it is super nice and super clean. The floors and frame are nearly perfect with no rust. No panels have been replaced and the car is very straight. There is a little bit of surface rust below the rear side window on the drivers side, there is a little bit of rust on the bottom of the drivers side rear quarter panel. It also has a small amount of rust begining to show on the bottom of the tail gate. Otherwise it is super clean and straight and a perfect car to restore. It also has a couple small dings here and there but nothing serious. Again, it has not been restored, has no replacement panels and no bondo. It is a straight, original car, that was just painted once. The rear tailgate power window and both latches/hinges work perfectly. There is no rot at all in the tailgate hinges like most of these cars have. When I bought it I went through the brakes completely (pads, shoes, drums, hardware, master cylinder, etc) to make sure it is safe to drive. The car ran just fine but was all torque, and a little slower than I felt a big block Chevelle ought to be. So, in the spring of '10 I pulled the motor and added the following: Edelbrock Performer RPM hydraulic camshaft/lifters Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold Hooker, ceramic coated full length headers A 2500 rpm stall, 10" torque converter A new Demon 750cfm carb with vacuum secondaries and an electric choke Several little things like E3 spark plugs, taylor wires, etc. These mods left the car still very streetable but a whole lot more fun. It has a very nice, lopy idle and it really runs great. As you can imagine, with an open rear differential it is traction limited, but still surprises a lot of people at a traffic light. I have not had it on the track, but according to the Bosch app on my iphone it has run a best of a 12.95 quarter mile, easing it off the line. I can't imagine you couldn't easily get it into the low 12s/high 11s with a posi and some 3:73 gears. However, geared like it is it cruises down the interstate just fine at 70mph, something most hot rods can't say. The car is very streetable and will putt around in traffic at a steady 195 degrees with the electric fans on. The interior is in good shape, except for the carpet which is pretty stained. I am not personally fond of the 90s look, but someone spent a lot of money on the seat covers/door panels/headliner. They also installed a set of swivel bucket seats from an El Camino. As far as needs, it doesn't need anything that I am aware of at the moment to be driveable. It runs great, doesn't leak, smoke or have any other known problems. I would drive it across the country tomorrow. Here is what I would do next if I were keeping it: The cam does not make quite enough vacuum for the brakes, it really needs a vacuum canister to store what it does make. When driving it powers the brakes fine but if you have to stop several times in a row you will run out of vacuum and temporarily lose power brakes. It still stops fine but requires a lot more pedal pressure when it happens. It has new Dynomax ultra flow mufflers and the exhaust sounds good but it is only 2 1/4" inch. This is robbing a lot of power and it would sound awesome with a 3" exhaust. It really needs a small amount of body work and a paint job. It could be a super sharp cruiser with just a little bit of effort. If I were keeping it I'd make it look bone stock and paint it brown or mint green or something else from the 70s. I'd install a quieter exhaust and a 12 bolt posi, then go break the hearts of mustang/camaro owners with it on main street ;-) Well that's the whole story. I hate to see it go, but we simply need the money for our business right now more than we need a toy. High bidder wins, guaranteed. Of course there is no warranty on a car like this. You may inspect it as thoroughly as you like, but once it leaves our posession it is as-is and you own it. Good luck, and happy bidding. Feel free to email any questions and of course it has a clean KY title ready to transfer.
