Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1981 Honda Silverwing Interstate with only 3,164 miles. This is the sport touring version of Honda's amazing CX500 sport bike. The 500cc Honda transverse V-twin is legendary for economy and reliability. In excellent condition, the bike has been in storage for most of the past 30 years. I believe I am the third owner. It is a beautiful motorcycle with nearly flawless paint. It has never been dropped or abused. A few scuffs and stone chips are noted on the luggage. There is a slight dent in the tank on the right side you will notice in the pictures. I believe it would come out easily. There is some surface pitting and rust on the exhaust headers. It is completely original although I believe the first owner had it professionally painted. The tail trunk/rider back rest can be replaced by a passenger pillion which is included. The side cases are easily removed. Everything works including all instruments and lights. The original tool kit is included. It rides and handles very nicely. The 5-speed transmission shifts smoothly and precisely. The tires are good but are several years old; I would replace them before a long trip. The following is a list of all service I have performed on the bike in the past 6 months: Rebuilt front brake master cylinder and calipers and replaced pads (EBC). Replaced all brake hoses with new SS clad lines. Rear drum brake inspection and adjust. Replaced mirrors with new. Spark plugs, valve adjust, adjust cam chain tensioner. Lube speedo and tach cables. Clean and lube (Honda Moly-60) rear wheel drive splines. Change engine oil and filter. Renew air filter. Drain, flush and fill cooling system. Final drive drain and refill. Replace mechanical seal (water pump) as it was weeping just a bit. Shifter shaft seal replaced. Overhaul fuel petcock and install inline fuel filter. Replace front brake light switch. Clean and service carburetors, replace both air cut-off valves and accelerator pump. Replace intake tube O-rings. Where applicable, all parts used are Honda OEM. This bike is light, agile and ideal for the shorter rider or lady as the seat height is about 29". Power is certainly adequate but this is no crotch rocket ... if you want exhilarating acceleration, keep looking. But if you want a reliable, economical and fun daily rider with weekend sport touring potential, this is your bike!
