1979 VW Beetle Convertible Karman Edition - BARN FIND !! This little beauty literally turned up in a pole barn in southern TN about a year ago. I bought it intending to put a few hundred into it and make it a daily driver, but, after I got it home I decided it was really too nice for that and it should be restored. As you can see, I never had the time and money to do that, so I decided to let her go to someone who has those resources. This little Beetle is really all there and mostly original. If the brakes were done, you could probably drive it home (or at least 100 miles or so) !! It starts up reliably and, although it runs rough and smokes some, I've driven it in my neighborhood to keep the juices flowing regularly. Of course, this 32 year old Bug has rust in the usual places, but, other than the battery tray under the rear passenger seat (see photo below), she's really quite solid. A treatment with POR15 and a rear passenger patch panel and this body would be good as a driver (my original plan). In really good condition, these '79s (last year for U.S. imported air cooled Beetles) go for over $10,000.00 these days. Of course, you're not going to pay anywhere near that for this one. You're not going to pay that because ALL of my auctions are TRUE auctions with a starting price of $0.01 and NO RESERVE !! Naturally, I can't offer any warranty on a 30+ year old antique. The pictures here do accurately represent the condition of this car. The top is tattered and fragile, but I've kept it covered and it comes with a new cover (1 month old). The genuine rear glass with defroster wires is in pretty nice shape !! The engine looks to have a newish carburetor and it runs, but pretty rough. I'd either replace it or completely rebuild it depending on whether your looking for a driver, a go car, or a show car. The interior is really in decent shape for its 30+ years of service !! There are some cracks in the rim of the steering wheel, but the dash is pretty good and the seats will work fine as is !! The trunk and strut towers are solid and the carpeting is even in fairly good shape. Like most all of these antique, unrestored Beetles, the area under the rear seat is in the worst condition. In particular, the battery tray under the passenger seat is almost always rotted, and this one is no exception to that rule. Yep, that is the battery poking through the rear floor panel. As you can see from the photos, that cancer is really limited to the rear passenger/battery tray area (driver's side rear shown above). So, if it's time for you to get a summer project together, or you're a Beetle Maniac like I am, here is a great opportunity to fill up your workshop !! Ask all questions before you bid and understand that you're bidding on BUYING this vehicle, NOT the right to come to my house and look it over and decide it's not for you. If you don't have the money, don't bid. If you're not a serious buyer, don't waste my time or your own. Feel free to check my feedback and bid to win with confidence !! I have had many successful transactions here on eBay and I know how to communicate to make the experience a breeze for both of us. I'll accept just about any form of payment for it, but this little rag top will not leave my possession until your money is in my pocket. The State of Georgia does not require a title on a vehicle this age and I never put it on the road, but I did get a North Carolina title from the previous owner that is in my possession. It will be included with a professional Bill of Sale and all the documentation that I have. Of course, shipping and/or pickup is your responsibility. I'll be happy to help you load it on your trailer and strap it down with your tie downs, but if you need it shipped, I'll work with your shipper, but you need to make all of those arrangements. Good Luck Bidding and Thanks for looking at my auction !! The NADA book value for this car can be seen here. Average retail of $13,200 and high of $22,100 !! These are getting higher and harder to find every year...
