Here is a historic race car that is easy and legal to drive around town that few enthusiasts may have the chance to see. The Lotus Eleven was the most successful of the sports racing cars in the mid 1950s - a 1,000 lb Colin Chapman-designed space frame car, sporting a beautiful, aerodynamic body; the form of which was designed by aerodynamicist Frank Costin. The Eleven surpassed the earlier Lotus cars both in its competition success and number, with some 270 units produced through 1958. In competition, the Lotus Eleven set the closed-course world speed record at Monza, Italy in 1956 for the 1100cc class at 143 mph. At the Le Mans 24-Hours in 1956 an 1100cc Lotus Eleven was first in class, 7th overall and 4th in the Index of Performance. In 1957, five Elevens were entered. The Lotus Elevens were 1st and 2nd in the 1100cc class (9th overall), 1st in the 750cc class, and 1st and 2nd in the Index of Performance. At the 1957 Sebring 12-Hour enduro, an 1100cc Lotus Eleven finished 11th place, 1st in class. This car is a Westfield recreation and is wonderful!!! Registered as a 1955 Lotus has a 1275 BRG motor with a 5 speed gearbox it is in great condition and every little detail has been gone over so no issues at all. The car is in perfect condition – body, drive train, brakes, tires etc. The car was purchased with grey finish, but the owner wanted to see it in the lotus green with the lotus yellow trim, so a perfect repaint was done. The colors make the car dynamite and exciting and gets it thumbs-up where ever it is taken. The car needs not one thing but a driver, as you can see is part a collection of car’s and has always been taken care of with the best of care.
