Vehicle Detail
I am selling my Super Duty Trans Am after owning it for the past 16 years. This SD is a rare bird and has, unfortunately, been in an unfortunate accident. This SD may seem familiar to a lot of you as it has been extensively covered throughout the years in High Performance Pontiac magazing and Muscle Car Power for various reasons. The car actually runs and drives and does what it is supposed to do. It does need repair as you can tell by the photos. The damages: Roof will need to be pulled and repaired. Front bumper and header panel will need to be replaced A/C condenser and fan shroud will need to be replaced. The front fenders, hood and door will all need minor repair. The rear quarter panels are fine but the transition area (sail panels) both need to be repaired. The doors open and close perfectly. It needs a good clean up on the interior. The dash and seats are not damaged but the headliner will need to be replaced. The radiator is not damaged or leaking it just went along for the ride when the a/c condenser and left grille took a hit. You can read about this special car in the following issues of High performance Pontiac magazine regarding the engine, transmission and dyno in the following issues: Jan, Feb, Apr, Oct in 2007. Dec and July 2010 also. Muscle car Power featured it in December 2007 This Trans Am is numbers matching throughout. It is a Y8 motor and is the original motor. RaceKrafters in Lancaster PA did the extensive build on the motor in 2007. It dynoed on their engine dyno with a peak HP of 520HP at 5300 RPM and 547 lb. ft. torque at 4400 RPM. All documented in HPP The fuel injection system is from Mass-Flo EFI and utilizes manifold placed port injectors for each cylinder. This makes the SD motor run like a modern car without all the issues associated with carbureted motors including exceptional cold starting and all around drivability since it is a computer controlled injection system just like today's cars. The fuel injection was also featured in HPP Once installed in the Trans Am and strapped to the chassis dyno, it's best was 402 HP and 431 lb. ft. torque at the wheels. Yet this car can be driven anywhere as it still retains it 3.08 posi rear. The numbers matching transmission has been safely stored away when we replaced it (it is in perfect working order). We replaced it utilizing a GM supplied Supermatic 4L85 4 speed automatic overdrive transmission that features a key switch for a performance mode when desired. the exhaust system is a Ram Air Restoration 3" dual oval exhaust system. That was also covered in HPP magazine. Before the purists start attcking with their clubs and fire sticks, nothing has been done that cannot be easily put back to stock. I have always approaced this car as a special vehicle that I love to drive and with an eye to having the option to return it back to it's original configuration if I ever wanted to. Everything in this car has either been restored or replaced in the past 6 years. It was a simply jaw dropping gorgeous car and will be again someday. It has always had the best, no expense spared, repairs, workmanship and parts performed on this special SD. As if it is not special enough, this SD was sold in Hawaii new on an Export Invoice as per Pontiac Historical Services. I have been told it was the ONLY Super Duty sold in Hawaii for the 2 production years they were made but I have no way of verifying that fact other than I have not seen or heard of one. Being a Hawaiian car NO RUST EVER. It has ALL of it's original panels it left the factory with. I do have the PHS for the car verifying it as an SD car but the VIN does that also with the X code. I also have extensive documentation and receipts on this SD dating back to the early 80's in a 4" thick binder with each and every receipt or document in it's own vinyl sheet protector. I am having a difficult time with the decision to sell my special car but feel like maybe it is time to move on. We have been through a lot together and I have really enjoyed the time that I have been privileged to own it. Having said that, I am not looking to give it away. You true SD followers out there know what this car is worth as it sits, done or in pieces, especially given the EXTENSIVE doscumentation this particular one has. For those of you that are not aware, there was only 731 automatic equipped SD's for the 1974 model year and it was the last year for that engine. Build date is 02A (February first week), trim code is 731. Everything else on this car is in great condition and this car can be put back. If you need our facility to do as little or as much as you want, feel free to ask. I know this car better than anyone. If you have any questions, feel free to call Melvin Benzaquen at 845-712-5500. It is here at our shop and can be inspected with an appointment. It is for sale locally and we reserve the right to end the auction early. The last picture is of the car before the accident.
