Vehicle Detail
Great starter sailboat for someone looking to get into the sport and not commit a huge amount of money up-front. The 'Santa Lucia' has provided my friends, family and I a few great years of fun on the water at a very affordable price point. The Chrysler C-26 was a popular day sailor model in the late 70's when Chrysler Marine was in its heyday. Like many boat builders, the firm didn't make it financially so Chrysler shut the unit down in the 80's. Even though I mainly used it as a daysailor, it does incredibly sleep 6 -- 2 in the v-berth, one on either bench, and 2 in the aft cabin. It can also be towed easily given its swing keel, though I don't have a trailer for it. She is sold AS IS. She floats, she sails, and the engine has worked flawlessly. I just started it up last night (Monday, May 9th) without a hitch. The outboard is a two stroke 9.9 hp outboard so it doesn't have issues with cold temp starts or long intervals between usage. She can even be stored in the water over the winter for some frost biting since you can just crank the engine up and out of the water. No marine growth on the prop or other issues like that. Just make sure you add 50:1 oil/gas mixture to the tank and you're in good shape. The sail inventory is where we need some help. There is a main sail, a jib, and a storm jib that comes with her. However, there is no jib furler. The sails are definitely worn and do need to be replaced, though you can certainly sail her away when you win the auction in their current state. I fixed the swing keel mechanism a couple of years back and replaced the snapped cable with a heavier gauge so that now works well. The main and jib halyards were replaced last year. The mast was de-stepped and re-stepped last year and the spreader boots replaced, all the fixed rigging was tested and tightened by Oyster Bay Marine Center (where she spends her summers). However, she is currently on a slip at Brewers Yacht Haven in Stamford, CT (on Harbor Drive). Please call me directly and I will give you the code to the dock so you can check her out in person yourself. The hull is in very good shape for her age, but there is definitely some wear an tear in the cockpit. As for electronics, I did have a GPS/Chartplotter on her, but took it off. I'm more than happy to give that unit to the winning bidder. Only reason I had it removed was because I was going to give the boat to charity and hold on to the GPS in that case. There is a compass and speed gauge though the speed gauge does not seem to work. There is a wind vane on the top of the mast as well. VHF is fixed and operational and she has a 12v plug for your ipod, cell phone charger, etc. She does have a separate bathroom with a portable head. A decent amount of storage below the benches and up in the v-berth. She comes with an anchor and chain, fenders, life vests, deck brush, a whole host of other things -- everything you need to get going. The reason I'm selling is because I bought another boat. This was a great boat to learn on and get on the water, but I was looking for something bigger and a little bit newer. Had an opportunity not fallen in my lap to buy a boat from a good friend, I would have kept this one for a while longer. Feel free to call or write me an email with any questions. I just took a whole lot of pictures of her yesterday that I can share as well, but i'll try to post most of them here now. I am a motivated seller so if you want to email me with a private offer before the end of the auction, please go ahead and do so. Below are some specs from a Chrysler Sailing Forum Site: SPECIFICATIONS: Consulting designer: Halsey Herreshoff LOA: 26'0" LWL: 22'0" Beam: 8'0" Displacement: 5000 lbs. Ballast: 2000 lbs. Power:9.9 hp. Sailmaster outboard For more info on the boat, along with a forum for discussion, please see this link:http://chryslersailing.lizards.net/http://chryslersailing.lizards.net/sail_c26.html On May-12-11 at 04:02:12 PDT, seller added the following information: Please note that Brewer's Marina requires this boat to be sailed away ASAP. My winter storage contract is up imminently and I prefer not to sail her over to her mooring in Oyster Bay. Buyer must take delivery and sail her away within 5 days of this auction. On May-12-11 at 05:05:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Note that I did manage to get all of the navigation lights working at one point, replaced the bulb and housing on the bow light. The mast light works, but the connector at the base of the mast needs to be respliced and fixed. A very easy job to do, but wanted to make people aware of it. The sink pump also does not work correctly as it cannot create suction from the fresh water tank. I think the screw-in cap just needs to be made air-tight so as to create suction which shouldn't be too difficult either. The transom was solidified with a heavy gauge steel plate/bracket so as to properly support the engine since the fiberglass proved to be insufficient. I'll continue to update this listing with anything that comes to mind. On May-13-11 at 08:39:38 PDT, seller added the following information: PLEASE NOTE: You are responsible for picking up this vessel. As iterated above, there is no trailer available with this auction. I will NOT sail it to any other port. You have to come motor or sail it away from the dock. I am more than happy to instruct you on all the systems and see you off on a successful launch, but I will not, in any way, deliver the boat.
