Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is this 2000 Ford Ranger XLT Flare-side 4x4 pick-up truck. This has been my wife's daily driver from the day we purchased it from the dealer in March of 2000. It has served us well, but due to the economy, we have downsized to a vehicle that gets better gas mileage due to the distance traveled to work is 60 miles round trip daily. The exterior condition of the truck I would rate to be very good. There are very very few scratches in the paint with none of the scratches going down to primer or metal that I am aware of. The pickup bed is made of fiberglass, which does have a flat fiberglass bed cover, which has worn into one side a bit. It is not seen when the cover is closed. The interior of the bed is excellent since it has a plastic bedliner installed. Where there is metal, there is no rust, save a little bit of surface rust on the tailgate...nothing through metal and nothing that would be deep enough to cause issue. It received a polish and wax twice yearly, so it will still clean up really well and be a very sharp truck. The front portion of the exterior is great!! there are black running boards installed along with a fiberglass moon visor. The visor could use a bit of paint due to fading over the years. The tires and rims are in excellent shape. It has 31x10.5R15 BF Goodrich Radial All Terrain TA tires with about 60 - 70% tread left on them. Very little cupping... (I can have them balanced and rotated before you pick up if you so desire) The interior has shown it's use, but will clean up nicely. The only major issue within the interior is the little console between the seats...the little latch that holds the cover closed is not doing it's job very well...it has broken off from the main portion, but will still keep the lid closed. Outside of that, a good thorough cleaning of the seats and carpet would have the interior looking great!! The dash is not cracked, all gauges are working (although I think one light bulb is out behind one of the gauges) Unfortunately, the engine is in need of a bit of TLC. I just replaced the fuel injectors, and it runs very smoothly, although compression is low on Cylinder #5. I did a compression test on all the cylinders and here are the numbers: DRY WET DRY WET #1 117 psi #4 100 psi 105 psi #2 95 psi 125 psi #5 30 psi 45 psi #3 125 psi #6 95 psi 105 psi So...as you can see, there are some engine issues that would need to be addressed. My instinct says piston ring on #2 and possibly a burnt valve on #5..or hopefully just a really bad valve seal. I did not pop off the valve covers to look any further. Two years ago I did a full replacement of coolant hoses with a thorough flush and fill. Thermostat has been replaced as has the alternator and a couple of the idler wheels due to bearing failure (as would be expected of a truck this vintage). There is a coolant leak (not a big one, but a leak nonetheless) between the engine block and the timing cover, which should only be a gasket...this particular engine was prone to that after some time. The transmission is in good shape, although I do feel just a touch of slipping in second gear just before it shifts into third. The chassis is strong!! all joints are in good shape, and I have a set of U-joints for the main axle as well which have not needed replacement to this point. Differentials both front and rear have been changed as has transmission fluid with a filter. I have changed the oil roughly every 3500 miles... The truck starts quickly, idles really well after replacing the injectors...no codes being thrown at all whatsoever. So...there you have it...a great looking truck that just needs an engine rebuild...
