Vehicle Detail
1977 Mercedes Benz 450 SLC Coupe This rare, nice running European model Mercedes 450 SLC represents the zenith of the 107 series cars that Daimler Benz began producing in the early 1970’s and exporting to the USA. The quality and detail of these classic two-doors, combined with the rugged, powerful durability of the 4.5-liter dual overhead cam V-8 drive train make them among the best and most iconic models ever to come from the Fatherland. To knowledge this car was brought over from Germany by the original owner. Thus it has always been in SoCal/predominately in Palm Springs winter home where it was garaged and used every year for 3-4 months during the "season". It is certain the bulk of the 77,433km/44,113mi were driven its first decade; averaging less than 2300km/1400miles per year since new! VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: Ever spent an afternoon driving a classy, vintage Mercedes Benz? What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For the money, these Coupes are one of the best values for the overall driving experience that a vintage Benz has to offer. Look over the photos and you’re sure to agree what a find this is. “True Classic” is what comes to mind when describing this car. You'll admire it’s overall provenance. Hop in and fire up this beauty, it starts immediately - even when cold or having stood still for months! The automatic transmission shifts as it should. Power steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks, AC and Bosch AM/FM Stereo/Cassette round up the package. CONDITION: In total, this is a clean, smoke-free Mercedes. When it was acquired it was in restoration need and accordingly here is a list of everything done and the remaining things needing attention: The car idles, runs and drives as it should – immediate, strong oil pressure, new strong battery and charging system, new brakes, new fuel pump. Complete metallic silver-blue paint job in 2008. One pit/chip to the right brake lense. The chrome and exterior trim all around is in above average condition. The entire undercarriage is in great, solid shape. It has late-model large Mercedes chrome alloys on this car that blend perfectly with the low-profile body style without detracting from the vintage vibe. All are straight and true with nearly new (>5,000 miles) 205/60-R16 Pirelli radials. The front bucket seats have been newly upholstered with Navy Blue Naugahyde and carpet also replaced. The dash, while protected with a carpet cover still sustained the rather typical crack. While the gauges, switches and exterior lights are bright and true, some of the black trim has peeled and can be easily replaced with Burl adhesive kit for a knock-out look. Part of the driver's inside brace/handle is missing. Lastly, new windshield wipers are needed. The car is currently not registered due to the fact current owner who inherited it wishes to sell it; it does have clear title, and was fully registered with California tags up to 2004. It is being SOLD AS IS, with no warranties or guarantees whatsoever. The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements in their state of residence.
