Reluctantly offered for sale due to lack of space. The car is on a clear title and is registered until November. The very best thing about this car is the way it drives. This car behaves very well on the road, having nice light controls that the early Spitfires typically have. The steering is a dream to use, the car tracking nicely. The brakes feel good and pull up nice and straight with little effort and the hand brake holds well. The clutch is smooth and light and the gearbox shifts effortlessly without any grinding or drivetrain noises, the synchromesh on all three gears being very good. It is the type of car that you just want to keep on driving. The engine runs so sweetly, smooth and extremely quiet no unwanted noise at all and no sign of the telltale lower rumble that these cars get when the bottom end is getting worn. It starts very easily from cold and it does not overheat. There is an extra electric cooling fan operated from the dash if needed. The engine number is FC3840HE and is beloved to be original. There are only slight oil leaks visible. It’s actually quite dry underneath. The rear axle is also quiet, but is damp with oil. The rear flexible brake hoses have been in contact with the drive axles and although not leaking need to be replaced along with the steering rack gaiters. On driving there is some rattling coming from the hood which could benefit from some new buffers. All the electrical items gauges, lights wipers etc all seem to work well although the horn does not. The Firestone tyres have good tread although there is slight cracking on the sidewalls and they are a little oversize as the front wheels touch the body when cornering and braking sometimes. The car has been recently repainted and it is generally a good job but some rubbers have been painted over and there is some contamination or oxidization coming up from under the paint along the bottom of the trunk lid – see pictures. I have looked at the front and rear inner panels and cannot see any signs of the car having been in a significant accident,. The front frame rails and bumper supports are undamaged. The underneath of the car is very clean and looks like it has always been in a very dry climate. The ONLY rust is a small area in the middle of the driverside floor (see pictures) where the carpet has been damp at some time and caused it to rust through, not bad for a 47 year old car! The windows work nicely and the windshield is good except for a small scratch on the passenger side. The car generally has good fit and finish, the chrome being very nice except for some scratches on the bottom of the right front overider, although not very visible unless the car is on a hoist. The interior is in excellent condition, seats and door panels having been tastefully reupholstered in a nice grey cloth material. There is a sound system installed but the faceplate for the radio has been misplaced.The convertible top is older but functional, some of the snaps could do with replacement. This car is very well presented and it turns heads wherever it goes. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
