Vehicle Detail
2003 Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 This is the ONE If you’ve been looking for a nicely equipped, well maintained Suzuki 1000 V-Strom…here it is. This sharp-looking yellow 2003 DL1000 has taken me comfortably and reliably to Mt. Rushmore, across the Mackinaw bridge in Michigan, through the two-lane twisties of Arkansas, above 12,000 feet in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park, through the red stone canyons of Utah and many other wonderful places. Now, my wife wants to ride with me again, so I’m upsizing and letting this bike reluctantly go; there is no doubt I’ll miss it. I bought this V-Strom in 2006 from a meticulous machinist I worked with. I’m a 59-year old mechanical engineer who’s picky about maintenance. And, I’ve been a rider since age 14. This motorcycle is probably my favorite all-around bike ever. The added accessories make this V-Strom perfect for week-long adventures across America and pleasant rides around town. This bike is quite fast and handles well. It’s a unique motorcycle design that does many things well at a reasonable cost and with an amazing fun factor. This V-Strom is equipped with the optional center stand, 3-piece factory color-matched Givi/Kappa luggage, Givi side guards, and a throttle lock for those longer adventures. The luggage is easy to remove and carry like small suitcases. I will also include three different windshields: both the Suzuki stock and tall windshields and the one that’s on it now, a WindStrom windshield that I really like (it won a Motorcyclist Magazine windshield Comparison Test in April, 2005). Cosmetically, this bike is great. It has never been down, always garaged and not ridden off-road. The scratches are few and insignificant; this bike is well above average in appearance and condition. Total miles are now 30,033 or just under 4,000 miles a year of mainly highway riding. When I got this V-Strom, my friend had lowered the suspension ¾” because he has shorter legs. I have fairly long legs and thought about raising it back to stock height (it’s easy and the parts are included), but I found it very comfortable and love the way it handled, so I left it lowered. Chances are the new owner will like it this way, too. Recent maintenance includes oil/filter change 216 miles ago. The tires were replaced last summer with Dunlop D607; the front looks almost new, the rear has more than half of the tread left. (Note: a few photos show the previous tires before the new D607’s, please look at the close-up tire photos which were just taken). I also replaced the rear wheel bearings last summer and installed new dust seals for both wheels. Clutch and brake fluids were flushed about nine months ago (I do this yearly). Spark plugs were replaced about 10K miles ago with iridium plugs. The chain and sprockets are in fine shape, and the bike runs great. During a 2300 mile trip last summer I never had to add oil. The clutch was replaced just before I bought it and is very smooth. I corrected the factory speedometer error (which was too far off to suit me) with a SpeedoHealer (healtech-electronics.com) so I know precisely how fast I’m riding. There are absolutely no issues that would prevent anyone from riding this bike cross-country tomorrow. Included with the bike are the two Suzuki windshields, a genuine Suzuki service manual (the printed factory book), a service manual on computer CD, original factory keys, original tool kit, owner’s manual….it’s all there and then some A $500.00 deposit is due within 5 days of the auction end; I will accept PayPal, a cashier’s check, a money order or wired funds for this. The remaining balance must be paid by cash, cashier’s check or wired funds before I sign over the title to you. I expect you to complete the full transaction within 30 days. My last comment is this: if my 2003 DL1000 V-Strom looks like the right motorcycle, you’ll be ahead paying a little extra for this one and not losing the auction. This bike has the extras that make it ready to go anywhere with convenience and comfort. There are plenty of questionable motorcycles out there with shaky history and neglected maintenance, but this motorcycle is as nice and solid as described, if not better. Note my eBay feedback is 100% perfect and well-established since 1998. One more thing: this motorcycle is also for sale locally; if it sells locally I’ll end the auction. Also, I don’t disclose my reserve, but it’s reasonable for the condition of this motorcycle. Thanks and good luck.
