Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1979 CR125R in very good condition. I bought this bike about 10 years ago and did a significant amount of work to it to get it ready to ride. The swing arm needle bearings were replaced along with new o ring seals, dust seals and thrust bushings for the swing arm. If you are familiar with this model you'll know that the swing arm axel passes through the engine case halves. When I purchased the bike the swing arm axel was siezed and could not be removed, even in a three ton press. With careful surgery we were able to cut the axel in two places and then remove it witout damaging the swingarm or the engine case halves. The swing arm axel was (obviously) replaced. The swing arm has no slop and pivots freely like it should. The oil was changed and new seals installed in the front forks. They do not leak and the dust bellows are in good shape and work properly. Piston, rings, and wrist pin replaced. New air filter. New chain and sprokets. Rear wheel bearings replaced (more on this later). The tires are in excellent condition with no dry rot. The bike runs very well, runs out strong in each gear and the clutch works well with no slippage. The brakes are OK, they are in good condition it's just that the vintage drum brakes are weak compared to today's standards. The bike has aftermarket rear shocks that don't leak and work well, but I don't know the manufacturer. The bike handles great and is a joy to ride. I would not hesitate to put her on the trailer and go for a full day ride. It starts in 3 or 4 kicks every time and has been an extremely reliable engine. It sounds awesome when you get on the pipe. The bike was purchased to go trail riding. We used to go riding at Green Ridge State Park in Western MD. They have a 17 mile loop of fire roads that are super fun and super fast. We rode there a couple times a year, and once or twice a year at other local riding areas. Nothing competitive and no racing or motocross courses. Everywhere I'd take it people loved it and wanted to talk about it. Riding vintage motocross bikes makes for great conversation pieces. I haven't ridden the bike for the past three years, except to start it and put around my yard, and blast up and down the street periodically, so it's time to sell. When I replaced the bearings in the rear hub, the bearing race was totally worn. The new bearing kind of flopped around in there. I looked and looked for a good rear hub but couldn't find one at the time. So I fabricated some steel shims that wrap all the way around the OD of the bearing and pressed them in along with the bearing into the race. It works very well and there is no side to side slop in the rear wheel. This set up is fine for everyday riding and has been completely reliable, but I wouldn't go catching huge air without replacing the hub. At my age (50) huge air is out of the question :). Also the rubber chain guard that protects the swing arm from the chain needs replaced. I fabricate them out of rubber truck mud flaps, easy fix. Those are the only issues I know of on the bike. Thanks for taking a look at my bike. Someone is going to get a great bike at a really good price. This bike very much original and has been well cared for since I've owned it. It is a great candidate for cosmetic restoration, or just hop on it and ride. I don't sell junk and I try to represent it as accurately as possible. If you win this auction and come see the bike and feel it's been misrepresented you don't have to take it. I'll just relist it. This will be a cash only sale at time of pick up. I do not want to ship the bike but if the buyer makes ALL of the arrangements I will allow a reputable shipping company come pick up the bike as long as I have been paid. No personal checks accepted, no PayPal. Please don't bid on this bike if you can't pay for it or don't really want a vintage motocross bike. Serious bidders only, please. The bike is sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied. If you bid on this bike and do not contact me, I reserve the right to cancel your bid. If you have zero history and bid on this bike I will likely cancel your bid unless you contact me before bidding. It will be very much appreciated if the auction winner contacts me immediately after the auction close. With adequate communication I'm open to holding the bike for a week or so until it can be picked up. The bike is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time.
