Vehicle Detail
1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SLRare European model with 4 speed We have on offer a very nice 1969 Mercedes 280SL. This car is a very rare European model and is equipped with an even rarer 4 speed manual gearbox. The one piece European headlights give the car a very finished look compared to the American spec cars. We have just driven this car 140 miles from its prior home in Portland, Oregon. We checked and serviced the car and found it to be in superb condition. This SL runs and drives very smoothly and is a pleasure on the open road. Call me anytime on my cel to discuss: 541.543.6791 Body and Paint: The car has been refinished in a proper creamy white paint that is smooth and has a very nice luster that is hard to convey in pictures. The paint is complimented by excellent chrome. The original interior is well kept, with new proper type carpets fitted. The wood and trim are also in very good condition. This car even retains the period correct Becker Europa AM/FM radio in the dash. The car comes with a black Pagoda factory steel hardtop. This removable hardtop is in excellent condition and has a new white headliner. The soft top is also black, nice cloth, and is in good condition with only minor haze to rear window from spending it life mostly stowed away. Mechanicals The engine starts quickly and runs quiet and smooth at all rpms. Oil pressure is excellent. Clutch engages smoothly and the gearbox is a pleasure. The brakes are excellent and stop the car straight and true. The suspension has be renewed with new springs and Bilstein shocks front and rear. The car is fitted with an aftermarket A/C system that resembles the factory system. Overall this car shows a life of good care. The odometer is original and in kilometers which shows 03611. Due to a prior owners privacy concerns unfortunately the service records were not passed on. We believe the car has possibly the equivalent of 60,000 miles but certainly no more than 120,000. It does drive solidly like a 60,000 mile car. I can run comfortably at 80 mph all day long. Wheels and Tires: The Mercedes alloys are later model wheels and are fitted with 195/75-14 Michelin tires. Original steel wheels and hubcaps that are in good condition will come with the car. The original factory tool kit is still stowed in the spare tire holder. Summary: These manual transmission cars are very hard to find in the 280 model range. They are very rewarding to drive and come alive on secondary mildly twisty roads. This particular car is an excellent driver that shows it has been cared for throughout it life. The bonus of European lights with special features set the car apart. It will be reliable and enjoyable to drive for years to come. Priced very reasonable and will sell quickly.
