Vehicle Detail

This 1949 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Sedan with 42,326 original miles is in outstanding, original condition. Although I purchased this car from its original owner in Fresno, California, I have never titled the car locally (and I have the clear title signed by the original owner) ... so you would be only the second owner of this classic, low-mileage car. It is in fine running and driving condition and is ready to give its new owner many years of enjoyment. HISTORY: This Chevrolet was purchased new on August 9, 1949 for $1,999.74, including tax, at Baxter Brothers Chevrolet in Fowler, CA, just outside Fresno. The buyers were two sisters who lived in Fresno and they certainly made the most of their investment in this new car as they used this as their regular transportation for more than fifty years! Amazingly, the low mileage on this car comes not as a result of long storage. The car was always in regular use, but traveled an average of just 835 miles a year, with its trips limited primarily to church and the grocery store. It was always garaged and serviced regularly, as evidenced by its survival in such fine original condition. One of the sisters passed away a few years ago and the other surviving sister became too old to drive. CONDITION - EXTERIOR: The original metallic "ice green" paint is still on the car and for its age is in very fine condition. There are a few minor dings and some chips and rubs on the passenger side, as well as some small areas where the paint is thin and the primer is starting to show through. But overall, the paint looks great with a deep shine. The chrome has some small pitting here and there but generally is quite good. All the glass is perfect. There is some very minor surface rust on the wheels and the license plate lights. At some point water stood in the bottom of the spare tire well in the trunk, and it has rusted through, but otherwse this is a rock solid, rust free car. CONDITION - INTERIOR: The all original interior survives in outstanding condition. Seatcovers were installed when the car was new, but these have recently been removed to reveal the original striped broadcloth in new condition, front and back. Original headliner, carpet, and door panels are all excellent. The original rubber floor mats are in fantastic condition, as is the original rubber trunk mat. The only flaw in the interior is the front foam rubber seat cushion has become a little crunchy over the years. I'm sure a good upholsterer could carefully replace the cushion, retaining the original, fine broadcloth. All of the gauges, interior and exterior lights and wipers are in perfect working condition. The dashboard looks brand new. This car came new with no turn signals, no radio and no heater (California car), but all of these items are readily available and easily installed if wanted. CONDITION - MECHANICAL: The original six-cylinder engine always starts right up, runs smooth, and has plenty of pickup. At 42,000 miles, it's just getting broken in! Fuel and cooling systems are fine, as are the clutch and brakes. The three speed transimission is a little noisy in second gear, but I'm told that this is typical with these older Chevy's. The tires are older but have plenty of tread on them. Performance could be improved with a brake job in the future, but the car is ready to drive anywhere now, as is. As you're aware, there are several companies that specialize in parts and accessories exclusively for 1949-1954 Chevy's. Virtually everything you ever need for the repair and maintenance of this car will be available. Included with the car is the original title, the original bill of sale, original owner service policy, original lubrication coupon book and Chevrolet advertising brochures that were sent to the owners from Baxter Brothers in the 50's and 60's. There is even a mechanical pencil from Baxter Brothers. BIG BONUS: Over the last 5 years, I have amassed over 30 collector items for the 1949 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe (original magazine ads for the Styleline from 1949 magazines, dealer promotional items, photographs, postcards, original Chevrolet brochures from 1949, magazine articles about the 1949 Chevroltet, owners manuals, 1949 Chevrolet color charts ... and lots more). This collection has all been put together in an amazing portfolio and is easily worth $600-$800. This will be provided to the winning bidder. Overall, this is a remarkable car. It would be very difficult to find an original car in better condition. With proper preservation, it will always be a priceless example of motoring in the years gone by. The car is sold as is, with the buyer responsible for transport. All sales are final. The seller reserves the right to sell this car locally during the duration of this lisitng period. I am confident the car could be driven anywhere, but if you need to ship it via transport, there are a number of companies that transport cars throughout the U.S. (and I'll be happy to help on my end). Please do not bid if you don't understand the rules of eBay. If you have a weak eBay rating or have ever retracted a bid, please contact me before bidding on this automobile to discuss. If you have any questions, please email me and I'll get them answered before you bid. You are welcome to make an appointment to come and inspect and drive the car, but please do this before bidding. Payment will need to be made in full by cash or cashiers check with 7 days of the end of this auction. Good luck and thanks for your bid!
