Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1982 Chevy Chevette diesel car. I'm going to try to tell you absolutely EVERYTHING about this vehicle, so here goes: Bought from a guy in Oregon, has a "reconstructed" title. He hit a deer, which did some damage, and the insurance just declared it totaled so he bought it back from them, fixed it, and got the title as a "reconstructed" vehicle. It is currently registered in the state of Washington through November 2011. The guy I bought it from claims the mileage is original, but I wouldn't be so sure as it's a five-digit odometer. I make no claims or guarantees about the mileage. The good:- Runs and drives great- Gets 50-55 miles per gallon (I'm dead serious)- Shifts easily, all 5 gears and reverse work great- Will easily drive 70 mph on the freeway (unless you're going uphill)- Has a neat gold coin installed in the steering wheel (which, unlike an airbag, will not save your life, but it might leave a pretty cool impression on your forehead)- Tilt steering wheel! Adjust to your comfort- Has four doors, and you could theoretically cram five people into the car.- All the windows roll up and down, crank crank crank!- Blows hot OR cool air, no AC but nice heat- Headlights work, brights too. The bad:- Has trouble starting in cold weather. It has a great-working block heater that will guarantee startup if you leave it plugged in overnight- Glow plugs. One of the glow plugs doesn't seem to be making electrical contact, and thus making it hard to start- Glow plugs again. The original glowing mechanism failing and the glow plugs are instead now hooked up to a switch under the dash that you have to hold in order to glow- Windshield wipers: the mechanism controlling these on the turn signal switch stopped working, so they are now permanently on. I have remedied this by simply popping the windshield wiper fuse in or out as I need it (the fuse box is by the driver's left foot). I have a switch that I planned to install in the dash as a workaround for this issue, but I have not done so yet. I'll be happy to give you the switch and some wiring. Also the rear windshield wiper doesn't work at all.- Accessory belt. Currently the belt from the engine is only running the alternator, and not the radiator fan. This needs to be fixed if you plan on driving in hot weather at slow speeds. The correctly-sized belt I'm sure can be purchased at any auto parts store.- Alternator. Alternator works great, but is on a sort of rigged-up mount that needs to be tightened occasionally to keep the belt tight.- Door seals. Door seals should be replaced sometime soon. I have an unused door seal that will be yours with the car.- Turn signals lights do not currently work.- There is a coolant leak somewhere.- Leaks only nominal amounts of oil The ugly:- The car has dents.- The car is ugly.- The car is missing trim on the sides.- The car could use a paint job. In summary:I love this car for the manual transmission, the super-efficient diesel engine, and the general analog (versus digital) nature of fixing the beast. That said, I'm currently in grad school trying to write up a Master's thesis and as such I cannot give this car the love and attention that (I feel) it deserves. I would like to sell this car to someone who will either take the time to fix it up and bring it to its full potential, or someone who will lovingly part it out to save the life of another deserving Chevy Chevette diesel. While you CAN drive it away, you do at your entire own risk. SO, if you're the type who likes to pack a toolbox and a case of spare parts to hobble a "new" old car across the country, have at it! You can also tow it away if you wish. I would be willing to pick up a winning buyer from the SeaTac airport for a nominal gas fee. Basically any way you want to take it, you can, but driving will be at your own risk (of breakdowns, of fluid leaks, etc.). Here is a video of the car running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMXZ0UNxbe0 I will accept cash in person or a money order. I will require a non-refundable deposit of $100 or 10% of the total sale price (whichever is more) via your VERIFIED PayPal account within 2 days of the auction's end. There's no reserve, so only bid if you're prepared to BUY.On Feb-26-11 at 05:51:40 PST, seller added the following information: In addition, it should be added that this car runs on a 1.8L Isuzu diesel engine, as that was the engine they were using in these cars at the time. I highly recommend going to http://www.dieselchevette.com/ to find out more information on diesel Chevettes than you ever knew existed.
