Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Amazing 1986 Mercury Colony Park Wagon Pristine Survivor 29K Mile American Wagon History: This beautiful wagon, now 25 years old and eligible for awards at Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) events is the most rust free, well preserved vehicle I have ever owned (and there have been many). It was purchased new in Hagerstown Maryland by an older couple most likely as their vacation and special times vehicle. They had it rust proofed (Ziebart) and stored it with an expensive cover in their garage for over 20 years! When they were no longer able to own the car, it was purchased by a Ford collector and stored under cover for a few more years. Then I purchased it. It has traveled a total of 29478 miles thus far. Reason for sale: Number one: my wife doesn’t really like big land yacht station wagons (I do!) Number two: we are getting too old to ride motorcycles, and so are selling ours (see separate auction for perfect 2005 Honda Gold Wing) and plan to purchase a small sports car of some kind. We will need the garage space. Condition: I doubt you will find a lower mileage, more beautiful, well loved and preserved old station wagon than this one. The interior is just amazing. The seats – spotless, stain free, smoke free, very comfortable. Hard to photograph, actually a dark brown “clove brown” velour that looks like corduroy. Carpets – covered with floor mats since new. Headliner – perfect. Glass – perfect. Door panels – perfect. Package area – carpet perfect, side panels perfect, tailgate cover, a few light scratches. The body – totally rust and rot free. See the pictures of the open doors, and the tailgate hinge area for an idea how mint this wagon is. Electrical condition: Electrically, everything works, including all lights, air conditioner (still using original charge of R-12), cruise control, AM/FM Stereo Pushbutton (!) radio, even the quartz clock is still ticking along. All five electric windows are working as well as the electric door locks. There is nothing that is not working factory fresh. Mechanical condition: This has the 5.0 liter roller rocker fuel injected V-8 engine which was new for 1986. Runs as new – smooth, quiet, powerful. Surprising go-power for a full size vehicle. The transmission is the Ford AOD which shifts smartly and smoothly and has been recently serviced with fresh filter and transmission fluid. The engine compartment is very clean and has not been detailed (see photo). No drips, no smoke, no strange noises! Driving: This car rides and drives like a dream. The tires were replaced within the last year of my ownership, and are four matched US made Cooper Lifeliner radials. The original suspension, having coil springs on all four corners, gives a great ride. The steering is nice and tight with the low mileage this car has. It is a pleasure to drive and steers and stops very easily. Exterior: Outside, the condition is excellent. The wood grain paneling on these wagons was always very fragile, but this one has still lovely wood grain – not faded or chalky or peeling like many do. There is one small scrape behind the right front wheel which you can see in the picture. The paint is 100% original in ‘sand beige’, and is very smooth and shiny. The glass is free of scratches or chips. The chrome parts are perfect. The aluminum anodized exterior trim is of NOS quality, as are all four hubcaps. All the window and door seal rubber is soft and pliable as new. The rear bumper is straight and not dented, but there are a few small chips and scratches in the aluminum finish which do not detract from the overall appearance of the wagon, which is nearly ‘as new.’ Maintenance: What I have performed in the last two years: complete tune up. Transmission tune up. New correct size battery and muffler, both made in the good old USA. Changes of fluids. That’s about it – it’s bulletproof! Why buy this wagon? 1) It’s beautiful. 2) It drives great. 3) It’s eligible for antique auto shows. 4) It’s easy to work on and get parts for. 5) They don’t make these anymore! 6) Mini-vans are BORING! I know it is difficult to purchase cars on line. Check my 100% feedback score, I have been on EBay for 10 years now with never a negative mark, and have sold several vehicles over the years. I have more pictures I can e-mail, and will answer questions promptly. Send someone to check it out if you like! Clear title, in my name, no hassles, I am not a used car dealer. Thanks for looking!
