Vehicle Detail
This is probably the nicest original '55 Chevy Suburban that you will ever find. I don't really want to sell it, but my health dictates that I will never get it rebuilt, and so it goes to the highest bidder. I am the second owner of this truck, and I have had it for 25+ years. It is the most utilitarian vehicle that I have ever owned, and I have literally lived out of it. The original owner had four of these, specially ordered for his business. He had a piano store in San Fransisco, and these were delivery trucks. This one was his favorite, and he kept it when he retired. It sat in his yard, and it took me 10 years to get him to sell it to me, back in about 1985. Since then I have put some mileage on this unit. It's a wonderfull truck, and I will miss it, but I cannot any longer work on these things and so I must pass it on. I cannot control what happens, but I sincerely wish that this truck be restored as original....and not be cut up and rodded out. This is one rare bird. It originally had a 235-6 cylinder motor. That poor thing was pretty much clapped out when I got it, but it lasted a couple years, until I could replace it. I got a '66-327 from the local junkyard & built it up with all the best parts. I spent $1200 building that motor, and it motates that truck just fine. It now has 16" wheels, and can do 70 mph on the freeway, all day long, no problem. As the years have gone by, I have fixed things, replaced busted parts etc. and kept this rig running. It's still a work in progress, but it's a very valid unit. Not Junk! You will never find one of these with a better body, anywhere. It's a total California car, never wrecked & no body work, anywhere. The only rust is on the passenger door, at the bottom where the drain holes clogged up & now there are some pinhole rust areas. That is it. The body is solid. I have the jump-seat, but it hasn't been re-upholstered. The main front seat is re-upholstered. All of the glass & trim is good. The instruments all work, except the speedometer. It worked until it started making terrible noises, and I unscrewed it. This truck is special, because it has the extremely rare "station wagon" rear doors. Try to find another one like this! And they are in perfect condition! With this outfit, you can carry 20' boards, with the tailgate down. The tailight is a special unit that hinges down as the tailgate comes down, so it stays leve1. This is one unique Chevy model, and I really doubt that there is another one like it, anywhere....they didn't make very many of these. The only rarer Chevy commercial vehicle in this year would be a Sedan Delivery. But the rear doors on this rig were special order, and very few were built. This is probably THE rarest Chevrolet commercial variant of 1955. . I am not going to sell this truck for peanuts, so my reserve price is respectable. It is not, however, more than I have seen other '55 Suburbans of much lesser quality sell for. Let's just say that we are in the 4 digit area. At the current time, the starter has busted & I have to bump it to start it, but it runs fine. I am the title holder, and I will turn it over on receipt of cash money USA American. This is a great truck, and I hate to part with it, but someone else has the opportunity to get it now.You will never find a better one.
