Up for auction is a 1967 Lotus Elan Type 36 FHC Coupe. This bright red roadster is an immaculate iteration of Lotus speed and style. This fine automobile was fully restored approximately 20 years ago, and has been in the hands of the same owner, and the same mechanic since that time. It has been driven rarely since the restoration, but well maintained throughout. Every aspect of the vehicle from the engine and transmission, to the paint and interior, tires and wheels, and even the glass, are in tip-top road-ready condition. The elegant contours and low weight, plus the Lotus-Ford 4cyl engine combine to offer legendary British performance. This is a gentleman’s roadster, sophisticated, nimble, powerful, and timeless. This is a stunning example of one of the most iconic cars in Lotus history. The car is virtually flawless from top to bottom. Approximately 20 years ago, the vehicle went through a full restoration at Continental AutoSports in Hinsdale, IL. During the restoration, the engine was rebuilt, the interior was replaced, the car was repainted, and all faulty or decaying parts were repaired and replaced. For the last 20 years the vehicle was owned by one individual, and serviced regularly at the same shop by the same mechanic. Since the restoration, the car has been driven very little. Engine: The car starts and runs strong. The fluid levels are all acceptable, and the vehicle is in all respects ready to drive. The engine itself is clean, and has been very well maintained. The clutch and transmission work normally. There is a slight oil leak that develops when the car sits. As with any vintage sports car, service is always recommended before daily driving. Exterior: The body is in excellent condition. The glossy red paint is virtually flawless throughout, with only one considerable blemish, located inside the driver’s side door frame. See photo. There are a few extremely minor chips near the back bumper, and along the trim at the passenger door panel. The fiberglass body shows no dents, or bends, and all of the moving parts, such as doors, trunk, and hood, operate normally, except for the windshield wipers which do not function. Interior:Like the rest of the vehicle the interior is in excellent condition. The upholstery and carpet were replaced during restoration, as well as the console, the dash top and the wood dash, and all have been maintained carefully. The floor mats have a little shoe dust, but that can be brushed or wiped off. The passenger seat has a small snag, approximately 1/16” across, but otherwise the interior shows no obvious blemishes. Tires & Wheels: The Pirelli P2000 tires are practically new, with most of the nubs still intact. It appears that they have rarely been driven on. The trunk contains an identical full-sized spare. The wheels appear to be aftermarket aluminum or alloy (but we are not sure) with protruding center caps. There are a few minimal scratches on the wheels, characteristic of normal driving wear. Brakes work normally, but no testing was preformed. We did not road test this car. The information provided above represents the extent of our knowledge of the car.
