With its top-end and entry-level sedans still fresh out of the bubble wrap, Volvo’s devoting some much-needed attention to the most popular meatball in its Swedish lineup. And in its evolution into the S60, it hasn’t only gotten a name change: it’s also gotten a sleek set of lines that banished its formerly frumpy look to the bargain bin. The styling did force Volvo’s safety squad to re-examine and re-work their standard approach to crash protection. The S60 has very short overhangs at the front and back, because the wheels have been pulled so far out to accommodate larger interior room. These shorter front and rear ends forced engineers to redesign the bumper system to account for the short crumple zones. By using cab-forward architecture. Volvo created some substantial room for passengers. In the back seat, there are two seating options, called Dynamic and Comfort. One is designed to give the car a 2+2 feel through the use of two molded seats. The other option features a flatter, more comfortable seat that allows three passengers to sit in comfort. The S60 has a raft of safety and security items: front, side and head airbags up front; seats that move to reduce whiplash problems; an immobilizer and an alarm; a Safe Approach and Home Safe Lighting System; five head restraints; and anti-lock disc brakes. Convenience features common to every S60 include power windows, trunk release and door locks, illuminated visor mirrors, a trunk light, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, a pollen filter, air conditioning, cup holders, and remote keyless entry. Overall, the S60 interior is handsome and comfortable. The seats are cushy and covered in a nice pigskin-type leather. Switches are well designed, including the electric window buttons mounted conveniently on the door (instead of inconveniently on the center console) and feature auto down. There's a nice leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and other controls. The dashboard is organic, with flowing shapes that form a cohesive whole. The inside door handles are easy to grab. If you drive it sensibly, you will find that the S60 is more competent in all situations than like-sized sedans from American or Japanese car companies. This can be reassuring, even if you don't drive hard. There's no sense that the S60's going to do something stupid if it hits a bump or a patch of ice and head immediately for the ditch. This particular S60 is in great shape. Just look at the pictures and judge for yourself. The vehicle is mechanically sound and the interior looks nice. The engine sounds great, it handles and drives superbly and has no problem developing high speeds. Car runs straight as an arrow and tires do not pull in any direction. The car can be exported, transferred and registered in any state.
