Vehicle Detail
1985 US Model Nissan 720 Pickup Truck 85,000 miles Bought from Arlington, VA, at 78,000 original miles and imported to Ontario. Presently registered (titled) in Ontario but I still have the Virginia title and registration for easy re-import (see info below) to the US. Very little winter driven last year and none this year. Can deliver from Toronto, ON to Syracuse, NY or help you arrange for shipping. 2.4 L. bullet proof Z engine always starts and runs flawlessly. Auto transmission shifts smoothly and correctly. This vehicle is rust free and solid. The dent below the left tail light was there when I bought it. It would be an easy repair. The exposed metal has surface rust only. I kept applying Rust Check on this area. Original Nissan push button AM/FM radio doesn't work. I haven't investigated the problem but I suspect a blown fuse. The Chrome wheels and tires pictured were bought locally and the original steel (rust free!) wheels with good tires are included in the sale along with 4 winter tires on steel wheels. Three sets (12 tires) in total. Original paint, seats are in great condition. Krown Anti Rust treatment same month as importation and Rust Check twice a year since. One sold lately on eBay for $5600 and had more than 100,000 miles on it. I bought a Ford van (E-350) last May and have no use for this little truck anymore but I do miss the fuel economy. Info I found on the Net: Re-Importing A Previously Exported Vehicle A vehicle taken from the United States for non-commercial, private use may be returned duty free by proving to U.S. Customs that it was previously owned and registered in the United States. This proof may be a state-issued registration card for the automobile or a bill of sale for the car from a U.S. dealer. Repairs or accessories acquired abroad for your vehicle must be declared on your return and may be subject to duty. From http://www.buyclassiccars.com/import.asp There are some great Classic cars that have turned up in Canada over the years, and many rarer examples of certain marques were exported in droves back in the boom of the early 90's. Now the tables are turning and people within the US (flushed with Internet riches) are looking abroad to find the cars of their dreams! The law says: "any motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old" is not subject to importation restrictions. All vehicles less than 25 years old must be determined eligible for importation by one of the following methods before the vehicle may be imported under contract with a Registered Importer as described in the Vehicle Importation Guidelines.Generally speaking, if the vehicle you are purchasing is a Classic Car for your personal use and not for resale, you should have no real problems with importing and registering it in the States. Rear right wheel cylinder and the front left lower ball joint were replaced at that time. The inside of the chrome wheels (pictured) where also cleaned and painted with POR-15 paint. I have a new set of brake shoes in the box, a bag of oil plug copper crush washers and some preventive/regular maintenance parts that will go with the truck. Parts are easily available for these trucks. On Feb-01-11 at 05:33:09 PST, seller added the following information: ***ADDED TUESDAY FEB 1*** I had many inquiries/questions and concerns about getting a vehicle from Canada. If you use "BUY IT NOW" or if the end price is more, here's the deal: I will drive the vehicle to the US (I-81 down to Syracuse, NY or 100 mi radius from the Thousand Island Bridge) to meet with you or to leave it with a shipper. You don't have to cross into Canada. If it goes for less than the "Buy it Now" price, I'll charge $200 to cover expenses and my return trip by bus, taxi home, time, etc. I do have a day job and will have to plan this. In addition to the fact that I have the original Title from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Transportation, I found a post from a Rovers club that explains the import process very well. It has links to the two forms needed. http://www.roversnorth.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10615 This truck is more than 21 years old and is exempt from EPA regulations. http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/forms/3520-1.pdf "EPA exempted vehicles: code E - vehicle or engine at least 21 years old (calendar year of manufacture subtracted from year of importation) and in original unmodified configuration is either exempted or excluded from EPA emission requirements, depending on age. Customs may require proof of vehicle age." The second form is from the US Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Exemption http://www.nhtsa.com/cars/rules/import/hs799short.pdf it contains: — D E C L A R A T I O N — Importation of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Equipment Subject to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety, Bumper and Theft Prevention Standards There is an exemption for vehicles that are older than 25 years old. ... see line item #1 which states: The vehicle is 25 or more years old or the equipment item was manufactured on a date when no applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or Theft Prevention Standard was in effect.
