This rare coupe has been fully restored and modified by a collector / enthuasist. It was a legal import sold new in the USA with the smaller 3.8 ltr V8 engine. I purchased the car after the original engines timing chain let go causing terminal damage. I had the damaged engine professionally removed and replaced with a rebuilt 5.0 ltr engine and transmission from a 1985 500 SEL. After the engine upgrade the rest of the cars mechanical, and comfort functioms were checked and replaced where necessary. The A/C system was fully rebuilt and now blows very cold. The original paint was fading so I had it professionally repainted in the original color with basecoat/clearcoat. All glass, metal trim, and weatherseal was removed and restored or replaced. The road wheels were upgraded to a set of chrome factory wheels from a 1989 560 SL. The steering wheel is a classic wood rim Nardi. The interior of the vehicle is original and in excellent condition, The car is very smooth, and powerful making it a lot of fun to drive, as well as being extremely reliable as a daily driver if desired. It will appreciate in value if the new owner continues to maintain it. The original Becker radio is still in the car. The odometer quit soon after restoration, and I have not bothered to spend the $ 300 to have it recalibrated. The price being asked is way under half of my cost to restore - it is an excellent buy for someone who appreciates the classic value of this unique model.
