Vehicle Detail
This is a numbers matching 1969 BMW R60US in very good condition. The previous owner, a collector, had a large stock of vintage and new bikes, and was parting with some of the ones he rarely used. He had acquired a R69S he was going to have restored, so this R60US was one of the bikes to go. I bought it last spring, but since purchasing a house I have found I could use the money more than I need the bike! I can't tell you if it's just been very well maintained, or if it's an older restore. I know that the previous owner took good care of it, as did his mechanic. He couldn't tell me much about what was done though, as he wasn't the mechanically inclined type. When I went to take a look at it, it had been stored for nearly a year the owner stated. After putting in a battery and fueling it up, a few kicks started it right up. I put around 500 miles on it last summer, with one trip as long as 100 miles, and had no problems. Even though I don't take it out much, I start it every week and ride it a mile or two. It fires up nine times out of ten on the first kick, and if not always on the second. When I bought it, I dropped the oil pan and found the screen was clean and there were already magnets in the pan, an indication that it was well maintained by the previous owner. I have a spare oil pan gasket that will go with the bike. I also changed the oil in the transmission, shaft, and diff. It has a number of scuffs and scratches you'd expect with a well ridden bike, but the only real dings that I've found is a shallow one in the headlamp bucket and one on the front left of the tank as pictured. There are a few scuffs on the front fender, one on the left side of the tank, and one on the rear of the right saddle bag. On the pics in the garage, what looks like scratches on the tank and saddle bag are actually reflections of the garage door windows. It has engine guards that are not pictured, but that will go with the bike. The saddle bags are reproduction and I haven't hooked up the lights on them, and the previous owner couldn't find the tool box key so you'll want to take it to a lock smith to get that taken care of. Maybe the tool box is empty, maybe there are tools in there, maybe it holds pirate gold! The new owner gets to find out. Apart from those two items this bike needs nothing. If you arrange shipping, I can get it to any local drop off point in San Antonio, or assist if you arrange to have it picked up at my house. I've shipped autos to and from with the carriers eBay endorses, and I wouldn't have any fear doing the same with a bike. Also, if you're local and want to see it, drop me an email.
