Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a 1962 Kaiser Willys Jeep M170. This 1/4-Ton, 4x4 was a variant of the M-38A1 military jeep, with its body lengthened by twenty inches, heavier suspension, and provisions for three patients on litters. The spare tire and jerry can of the M-170 were mounted in the body tub next to the passenger seat. Other differences from the M-38A1 included interior lighting, fender well storage compartments, crash pads, and a tailgate. A total of 4,155 of the M-170 model were produced from 1953 to 1963. The obvious wartime casualties result in this being a pretty rare vehicle. The original block had a crack, so the engine was completely rebuilt with a short block purchased from a military jeep parts dealer about six years ago. The F-head engine runs well and is much more powerful than the L-head used in many older jeeps. The transmission grinds a bit going into second if you force it, so I think the syncrhros may need some attention. The steering and alignment need to be tightened up a bit. The front brakes were just completely rebuilt and the entire system is working well. The tires are well worn and need to be replaced before significant road use. I say this not to scare you away, but to accurately describe the vehicle... it is a working jeep that needs restoration. Other than taillights, the original 24V electrical system is intact. The canvas top, bows, and wood are included. The seat frames were recovered with store bought canvas. Some amateur body work and a paint job was done about ten years ago (a few rust spots are starting to show through again). A roll-on bedliner was used on on the inside. It has been stored inside and rarely used since. All original parts (worn or broken as they may be) have been saved and are part of this sale (blackout light, horn, taillights, cracked block...). I am relisting this item as a traditional auction with NO RESERVE. Also, new pictures (taken on 1/12) have been added. This is a really special antique vehicle which I hoped to restore myself, but I just don't have time.
