This sleek design is a classic example of Harley Earle's Post-War art. 1948 would also be the first year of the Dynaflow automatic transmission. The Dynaflow was exclusively available on the top-line Roadmaster Series at a substantial cost of $244.00. A smooth-shifting transmission, the Dynaflow was a significant improvement on the Hydramatic transmissions. The Dynaflow went through rigorous early testing in the US Military's M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyers. Buick's engine of choice is the Fireball "Dyna-flash" inline-8 cylinder engine. This powerplant is 320 cubic inches and produces approximately 150 horsepower. This mono-bloc engine features 5 main bearings and is reliable and powerful. Again, this is a car that can be driven and enjoyed. The luxurious interior features the best in bright work and materials. The tenite steering wheel is intricate and beautiful in design. The visors feature a mirrored service plate that can be affixed as well as this beautiful antique Buick Polaroid day visor. The heater control is in place. Buick produced 229,718 cars in 1948, with 20,649 being the Roadmaster Sedanette. There were more convertibles produced than these streamlined fastback coupes.
