1956 Mercury Montclair Phaeton Top of the line Montclair series. First year of the four door hardtop and Phaeton name. We've owned this car since August 2003 and finished restoration a year ago in our shop. It has the original 312 ci V8, automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. Radio and heater in working order. Speedometer shows 5000+ miles so it has been over one time at least but cannot verify mileage. Mechanicially the engine runs great, although it has not been rebuilt during our ownership. The transmission had a seal kit and adjustment 1000 miles ago and does not leak a drop. The power brake booster was rebuilt. Two new stock mufflers have just been replaced in the original dual exhaust system. The paint and minor body work was done a year ago. It's painted a 50's period pink and white color combination. All exterior chrome has been rechromed and the stainless highly polished. Looks like the previous owner did some rust repair in the rockers and the rear tire opening area. The trunk and floors are all solids with no patch panels. The interior still has the original perforated headliner with the gold beading which is still in perfect condition. The dash was recovered to match the vinyl in the seats. The seats have been covered in a 50's period cloth. The original door panels were dyed to match the cloth. Front and rear carpets replaced and new door sills installed. All original interior chrome is in excellent condition. The trunk materials have been replaced in the original patterns. The engine compartment has been detailed in original Mercury colors and decals added. Radiator has been rodded and cleaned. All glass except vent windows are original FOMOCO in good condition. This car is equipped with original accessories, spinner hubcaps, exhaust tips, day/nite mirror and original outside mirror. Highly recommend you take this car for a drive if possible.
