Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1985 Mercedes 300SD Turbo Diesel Sedan. If you’re viewing this listing, you are probably familiar with the virtues this car offers such as fuel efficiency, solid German engineering, build quality, et cetera. The photos of this vehicle should accurately depict the current condition of this vehicle, as they were taken just prior to listing this vehicle for sale. In an effort to disclose all that I know about this vehicle, I will list the specifics, as well as the features that function properly, those that do not, and other miscellaneous defects. Year, Model, Mileage: 1985 300 SD Turbo Diesel 5 cylinder motor. 256,697 actual miles (properly functioning odometer and trip meter) Color: Black exterior/dark graphite bumpers and body cladding (two-tone exterior). Custom Medium grey leather with lighter grey leather perforated inserts. The paint is not original, but a very nice paint job as depicted in the photos. The paint has been color sanded and buffed to the glassy smooth surface that you see, and is freshly waxed. (Check out the crystal clear reflections on the hood and trunk photos!) History: To the best of my knowledge, this was originally a California car and now located in Phoenix, Arizona. I purchased this vehicle from the previous female owner. A very solid west-coast car. I do not believe it has ever been in any sort of accident. The body looks straight and original. Clean Arizona title in my name, no liens, no salvage, shows actual miles. Mechanical: The engine is strong and solid, no major leaks. The turbo functions as it should. Transmission shifts as is typical with these classic Mercedes- with solid, crisp and distinct shifts between gears- no slipping. The car starts right up with very minimal glow plug warming period. Engine cooling/radiator functions as it should, and oil pressure is strong as evidenced by the properly functioning oil pressure gauge. Old diesels tend to leak drips of engine oil as they reach higher mileage, but this particular car is dry underneath even when parked for extended periods- in fact, it leaks less than my 1993 Lexus LS400 with half the miles! Features: 4 Kumho tires. Three tires have 90% tread, and one (front driver’s side) is brand new with 100% tread and less than 10 miles. Brand new heavy-duty battery. Power sunroof, factory radio, power seats, power door locks all work. Vacuum system that operates central locking system (as well as engine shut-off) functions properly. The engine shuts off when you turn the key. Blower motor/vents for interior heating and ventilation functions ok. Defects: As beautiful as this car shows, please remember that it is nearly one quarter of a century old, with nearly one quarter of a million miles! By no means do I intend to represent this car as perfect, as older Mercedes tend to have their own distinct quirks. The power antenna is broken, does not function, but radio still gets reception. The A/C needs charging. The Mercedes emblem on the front grill is missing (stolen, as is common on these models). Carpets are clean, leather is in good condition with a couple of flaws that are visible in the photos. The upper dash has some visible cracking, and the wood trim is not perfect. The wood-panel center console shifter housing is loose. Power Window switches are temperamental: Driver's side window goes up and down fine, rear windows are finicky, and passenger side front window is finicky as well. The motors and regulators work, my Mercedes specialist says the power window switches are faulty and needs replacing (pretty common on these models). Driver’s seat controls are a little temperamental, but do work (power headrest is inoperable). Front Fog light bulbs need replacing. Rear reading lamps do not work. Passenger side-view mirror is cracked. Very shallow, barely noticeable depression on the front passenger-side fender (2nd to last photo). Small area on rear passenger door where the paint was buffed a little aggressively and shows wear (I tried to photograph it on the 3rd to last photo). Rear window has some tint-delaminating on the driver’s side (last photo). Chrome wheels have heavy pitting, and could stand to be re-finished, but a purely cosmetic defect. Overall, I could nit-pick minor details, but everything is reasonable considering year and mileage. This is a mechanically solid car with most features functioning as they should. I reserve the right to end this listing at any time, as it is listed locally for sale.
