The following is for serious bidders. After much consideration, I have decided to sell my 1977 Dodge Monaco, CHP spec 440 police package (E-86) vehicle with “Special Handling Car” plate. This is a rare machine – only 1,426 pursuit Monaco’s were produced that year for the California Highway Patrol at a price tag of $4948.00 per unit. An estimated 12 vehicles with the same set up are likely to still survive. She is a matching numbers vehicle with a paper trail of her service. The car served in the Fresno California area. She was originally placed in service on 6/22/1977. Her plate number was E 849143. Her paint was originally black and white and at about 63,000 miles; she was painted a metallic brown by the Patrol and used for undercover work. On 7/10/1979 with 75,460 miles on her and was sold at auction. It was purchased by a California Highway Patrolman and later sold to another collector in Sacramento Ca. I purchased the car in April 1987 with the intent of working on her restoration. The odometer shows 16,227 miles and is believed to have rolled over. She is truly a pleasure to drive. The interior is in amazing shape with minor wear, which is to be expected for a vehicle of this age. This is a rare car and I had not planned on selling her as my dream was to restore her back to her original black and white paint with markings and lights (she was a smooth top cruiser), but circumstances change. She can only increase in value. I have set a reasonable reserve. She runs great and her engine is quiet and you could probably balance a nickel on her air cleaner.
