Vehicle Detail
Folks, I listed this car last week and was just told that I had not included the phrase "Sells As-Is" with no warrenty. Because of that, I had to end the auction to protect myself as the seller. So I am relisting the vehicle, immediatly after fixing the wording. NOTE: If you looked at the auction for this vehicle the first time I listed it, please reread the body of this listing because I have added answers from questions from the last listing. Bought the car last year, drove it this past summer. It always gets a second look or smiles from those who see it. 1963 Studebaker Lark four door sedan. Regal trim level. 6cyl., automatic transmission. Rose Mist, color scheme. Original options to this car include full wheel covers, “strato” rearview mirrors and back up lights; original spare tire in trunk. Work in 2009 and 2010 includes a new emergency brake, new brake peddle, new master cylinder, all parts from Studebaker International. Electrical work from the engine compartment to the taillights was done and the battery was replaced. Alternator rebuilt. Also had the "bright light" floor dimmer replaced.. Replaced the drivers side door latch, drivers side door lock cylinder using parts from another 1963 Studebaker. Also had a real temperature gauge install under the dash. Of course, like all 1963 Larks, it has the “Vanity” glove box. No cracked glass, all windows operate. Body is in original condition, less wear and tear of the past 48 or so years. The car does need repainted above the belt line (top, fender tops, hood and trunk lid) – the old finish is worn down and can’t be buffed. Below the belt line the body looks good, but there is some bubble through rust on the drivers and passenger doors, and about a dime spot on the front left fender and rear left fender. There is a gouge dent in the bottom half of the drivers side door that was there when I bought the car in 2009. Exterior chrome is good and the bumpers are very clean. Interior: original upholstery. Front bench is serviceable with a small tear on the drivers side seat and endcap of the seat back. The rear seat back’s “top” is totally sun rotted from its Texas years. The good door panels are in excellent condition, and a couple Studebaker enthusiasts told me that despite a small crack on the dashboard (corner of the speaker grille to the dash board edge), its is good condition as well. The car will need new kick panel inserts (available from Studebaker International) in the front foot areas, and interior sail panels in the back. The good news is that Starlight Studebaker has original seat covers and the sail panel inserts. Operation. This car drives very well on the open highway given its age. The mileage I experienced with the car was good. Around town, the car dives well. One thing that a buyer should know is that this car needs to be warmed up before you drive it. It's not like a modern vehicle that you start and take off in – its needs to be warmed up. Car’s engine was rebuilt in the 1990s, according to the guy I bought it from. The engine compartment is very clean as you can see from the pictures. Car comes with a three binder showing receipts for most of the repairs in recent memory. This binder includes the original window sticker, and the original bill of sale. People have asked what work I think should be done to the car in the future. To me, the paint issue is something that needs to be addressed. The tires should be replaced as well if you plan on doing serious driving. The Carb. probably should be looked over as well. According to the professional who works on the car, the undercarriage looks sound. Car is currently located in Columbus, Ohio. Out of State Inspection when it was brought from Alabama to Ohio in 2009 was done at Bob Daniels Buick, and then the car was titled in Ohio. Another previous bidder asked if he could drive the car back to Missouri. My feeling is that the car should be trailered back to wherever you live because its a 48 year old vehicle and the weather this time of the year is too unpredictible Folks, this is a great project car. I have enjoyed owning her and driving her, but I need reduce the number of vehicles that I have. If you have questions, please ask before you bid. Please, do not bid on this car if you do not intend to buy it. Your bid is the price that you agree to pay at the close of the auction, it is not to reserve your place so you can think it over and then get back to me when you make up your mind. I have described the vehicle to the best of my ability in the condition that it is now. As such, this used vehicle sells AS-IS, and without any warrenty, implied or otherwise. Buyer is responsible for inspecting the vehicle prior to bidding; bidding without inspection means that you agree with the description above and the images provided. Buyer agrees to pay seller the final selling price with a certified check from your US financial institution (or via wire transfer) within FIVE business of the close of the sale. IMPORTANT: The vehicle will not be released to the buyer, or the buyer's agent (transport company) until proof that the full payment has been honored, and not subject to a claw back. Buyer also agrees that upon payment received, and verified and not subject to return, that the title delivered to the buyer via FedEx (unless the buyer picksup the car in person), and the buyer will then insure the vehicle. If a transport agent is used to move the vehicle to the buyer, it is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure that the transport agent is apprised to the proper operation of the vehicle, and the buyer will hold the seller harmless for any damage to the vehicle that occurs in transport.
