1968 Alfa Romeo Gran Sport Quattroruote - Zagato 1 of 92 Highly Collectible - Great Investment Serious Bidders Only VIN: AK 393078 (Right Side Fire Wall) AR00112 * 16516 * (Right Side Motor) Excerpt from Alfa Romeo Market Letter (February, 1994): Imagine a modem car company tooling up to produce a new model, then stopping after a mere' 92 examples were produced. That's exactly what happened with the Alfa Romeo Quattroruote (or '4R') Spider. Inspired by an article in the Milan motoring magazine, "Quattroruote", Alfa Romeo commissioned the coach-builder Zagato to clothe a contemporary Alfa chassis in coachwork that would duplicate as closely as economically feasible the classic lines of the 1930's Alfa 1750 Gran Sport. The result was the '4R', which aside from smaller 15" wheels, is nearly identical to the great supercharged Alfa of 60 years ago. Despite the vintage look, the contemporary mechanicals gave this spider ample performance coupled with an easily-maintained drivetrain. The prototype was exhibited at the Italian coachbuilders show at the Turin Motor Museum in April 1965 and the production version at the New York Motor Show one year later. On Dec-08-10 at 12:30:33 PST, seller added the following information: Replaced the following items: Fuel filter, fuel pump, water pump, fan belt and fan blade, theremostat, all coolant hoses, oil and filter, battery. Removed all front (6) wheel cylinders from backing plates and rebuilt with new seals and honed bores. Bled complete brake system. Checked lights and found brake and turn signal lights not working, found fuse blowing. Installed new brake light relay which corrected the problem. Greased front end, checked tire pressures. Horns need to be replaced, but we wanted to leave original equipment on the car. Possibly there is a kit available somewhere to replace them.
