Vehicle Detail

Here's you chance to own the real deal. The rare, convertible, 1969 Pontiac Firebird. Originally a California Car (documented up thru 35,562 miles) then to Michigan, where it was owned by a local family I knew from my high school years. The car was then used in Michigan, but then placed in dry storage barn from around 1983-84, until I aquired it in Nov.1998. Very solid vehicle then, that appeared to be re-painted, as a few spots were evident in the hood. I drove her as is, until I blew a right rear tire (which tore up the quarter panel) and made it un-driveable to me then. Frame on restoration then began. (upholsty receipts dated 6/1/99 - to put new covers back on seats) The car was taken down to bare metal, exposing a few more weak spots under paint, but not in critical support areas. The areas around the drop top and below the doors were all solid, including everything else. One or two small pin holes on the floor near the gas pedal, and as well in trunk, but still very solid there, and everyehere else. It now has two new rear quarters & two new door panels. All body work and paint provided by Pioneer Body, Grand Haven, MI. (owner - Brant - use as reference if your want) When they first saw the car, they recommended a frame off, because it was so solid, but I was in some what of a hurry, and the overall cost was a concern at the time. One person there, performed all of the body work on this vehicle, and this guy only worked on the classics! I was amazed when I got it back. Up on a lift it went, two coats of black enamel underneath, new suspension and exhaust. Never really did much with the brakes. New Tires and American Racing rims. According to City Body, they used the spec'd color for the vehicle. I changed out the blue carpet, upholstry, with a Pearl White, after complete clean-up of all metal, including repainting all parts. Interior floor was also painted with a rubber type (or bedliner) paint before installation of heat pads and carpet. The dash was taped off and painted black, and the plastic seat backs were also painted pearl white. New top, installed by Muskegon Mi. upholstry shop, Both paint, then carpet inside trunk. Has new front and rear bumpers, door handles and drivers side mirror. The rest of the chrome is original, along with all emblems (cleaned up and repainted). New chrome inserts for head lights. To my knowledge the motor has never been out of the vehicle, but the transmission has. The vehicle has performed well over the years and has been strickly used as a fair weather ride. Top typically goes down in the spring, and not up until the fall. In fact, I never re-installed the windshield wipers after the restoration. Stored properly indoors every year since. Have appraisal from then reputable dealer dated 2/09/04 for $17,000. Have used for collatoral more than once in the past. Small loan currently against vehicle from credit union that will need to be cleared prior to title change, and this can be completed within deposit. The electic top works fine, but is slow and sometimes needs a little helping hand. Although I asked the guys that put the top on to service the pump behind the back seat, I do not believe that this was ever done. All lights work and are operational, but headlights need proper adjustment. (maybe one replacement bulb) The (originally) chrome plates on the top of the windshield have been filled and painted black. The windshield is original and in good shape, with no visible cracks or chips. This is truely a car you will drive, and NOT receive compliments! I'm the third title holder to this vehicle. It has a 350 motor, with two speed Power Glide Tranny. Only about 4,300 or so of these made as convertibles in 69, as compared to maybe 16 thousand hard tops. You will occasionally see some 7's and 8's around, and more likley more camaros, but with Pontiac now gone forever, the value of these should continue to rise. You can tell by my overall description that I am NOT a dealer, and not a mechanic, just a guy with a nice old car. Washed, waxed, and buffed up...the decade or so old paint job still looks remarkable. Oh yes, will add specifics later, but vehicle has nice sound system, CD player with front 6" round installed speakers, Box style 6x9's that lay in back seat, and large box, with base thumper and amp in trunk! I will now attempt to list noticable items - otherwise flaws or things needed. It has a couple of small stone chips in the hood, and one spot about 1" diameter on the front left (top) quarter - where a metal strip from a drop ceiling fell onto it a year or so back. No rust there still, but needs repair. The windows most likley need some adjustment/alignment... (something I would never touch) and the rear windows are etched with a firebird logo/yr. This because one of these got etched up, in the inital sandblasting process. I never see them, cause they are always down, but always wanted to replace them. The Rubber between the door glass, and the windshield was never replaced, and the chrome tops, on top of the windshield have been filed and painted black. They also could use new chrome replacements. A couple of the door handles have never been permantly installed, and also the bottom of the back seat has never been snapped back into place. (to hard to get out the first time) There is a repair in the drivers side door panel where I screwed up with a cut, thinking it was a spot for a mirror, and there is a evident tear (not massive) along one of the seams on the drivers seat. Otherwise the upholsty just needs to be cleaned up, and is fine. The Carpet is black, and shows a little discoloration under the pass side glove box area, but otherwise in decent shape. Could use a new set of nice logo'd floor matts. It leaks a little oil, but not much, and shows wet on the left facing head. It also leaks a little more tranny fluid than normal, and I think it is the seal where the fill tube goes into the tranny. It also recently has been leaking (top/front) near thermostat...some anit-freeze, that settles in a pcket there. The motor compartment was simply blacked out with paint, and desires a better apperanace over all. The seat backs that were painted Pearl White have some scratches, and the blue original color plastic is apparent, but nothing that can't be re-painted . There is a small (1" x 1") or so chewed area, and along a seam in the top, left hand, drivers side, next to plastic back window glass. This happened the first winter season of storage, where a darn rodent must have gotten to it. This too, is repairable, and not too bad. Along with this on the new top, there is a loose (6-7") strip on very front, pass side, that needs to be re-stapled. High Bidder must be prepared to send a $5,000 good faith deposit...certified bank check ONLY, to Seller within 5 days of Auction End. Seller will then immeidately pay off Credit Union loan to clear title for transfer. Seller will then expect to close on Completion of this Action with another Certified Bank Check , in the amount due above deposit. Pioneer am/fm CD player w/ removable face - installed in dash. Pioneer Speakers...JBL base...Rockford Fasgate Amp. Seller reserves the right to end this auction at ANY time during the listing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On Nov-23-10 at 06:43:32 PST, seller added the following information: Thought it appropriate to copy and paste this info - emailed to me by a potential buyer who drove 3.5 hours to see this vehicle after the first auction ended. I don't think you did the car justice in its listing and I would suggest that you completely redo it before you list it again. If you take the time to explain that it is a numbers matching car, fully original, and that the body is in perfect original shape. You should tell the story that you have first hand knowledge of this car from the time it came to Michigan and that it has been sitting in a time capsule for 30 years. I would take much better pictures showing the things that I was looking at yesterday: Body tag plate on the firewall. Prove that it is a number matching car. I would take it and get it inspected and/or appraised on the merit of a 100% original classic. To me your listing showed that it was a moderately well kept car. It really didn't highlight the things that I wrote above.
