Vehicle Detail

"Oh, Those Beautiful Rock & Roll Fords !!!" This Sweet Little, CALIFORNIA BLACK PLATE, Y-Block V-8 Powered, 4 On The Floor, 1955 Ford Tudor, Club Sedan Hot Rod, Is A Pretty Sweet Ride !!! These Mid-fifties Fords Have Always Been The Coolest Cars Cruising The Boulevard !!! This is an "R Code" car which means it was built in the San Jose, California Ford Plant !!! This car spent the first 50 years of it's life in the DRY California climate !!!! I bought this little Two Door Sedan from an older gentleman in Alameda, California about five years ago. It had been his play thing for quite some time. He told me he had de-chromed it, put a rebuilt 312 under the hood and backed it up with a Super T-10 Four Speed Transmission. I Guess he wanted to dump the clutch at the stop lights and humiliate a few Chevy or Mopar guys. He painted it solid White, converted it to 12 Volts and used it for his daily driver. _______________________ When I saw the car I had slightly different plans. The 4-Speed excited me. The sweet running Y-Block also tripped my trigger. The White paint didn't do a thing for me. You see, I grew up in the Fifties a few blocks for the High School. I wanted to make this car look like the cars the big kids were driving to school in about 1959 or 1960. You know the look; Hot Rod Flat Black Paint, A Few Pinstripes, Lowered Front and Back, Wide Whites on Chrome Reversed Wheels, Dual Glass Packs To Make Those V8's Rubble !!! Those cars were SOOOOOO COOOOOL !!! Today we call these cars "Rat Rods" or "Traditional Rods" but back in the day they were just another Hot Rod that had been built by a High School kid on a part time grocery bagging job budget !!! One thing for sure is they still attract a lot of attention built up this way !!! At any rate I bought the car as a finished, driving car, brought it back to Iowa and set about making it the car of my childhood dreams. Here Are The Details; We sanded and prepped the body and painted it VSC Hot Rod Black. (This is single stage paint NOT PRIMER) The Pinstripes are hand painted by a Pro in Lime Green and Yellow....just enough to set it off. The body work was done at a shop in California before we bought the car. The floors are quite solid but might need a couple of small 2" patches near seat mounts. Even California cars can get some minor rust. The Inner Rockers, Trunk Extensions,Trunk Floor and Fender Brows appear solid. The Hood, Trunk and Doors Shut with a click. The Engine is said to be a 312 4 Barrel. I don't know for sure. I do know that it starts and runs GREAT. No smoke. No noises. Idles with 60 lbs of Oil Pressure. I've had a lot of Y-Blocks over the years and this is truly one of the best running ones I have ever seen. Used swap meet Chrome Valve Covers and Air Cleaner. Dual Glass Pack Exhaust. The transmission is a Super T-10 Four Speed and shifts GREAT. We replaced all four Brake Cylinders and the Master Cylinder. THIS CAR HAS FACTORY POWER STEERING !!! We cut the front springs to lower the front end. They work fine and do not bind or scruntch. The Frame and Front Cross-member are California Solid. Car drives nice. Glass is original, Drivers door glass cracked, vent wings are smokey and some pits in the windshield but no cracks. The chrome and bumpers have not been re-plated. The door rubbers will need to be replaced. The interior is cloth and vinyl and was in the car when I got it. Not perfect but it is serviceable as is. The Dash is stock and uncut. The Steering Wheel is stock and the horn even toots with the Horn Ring. Speedometer does not work. Please remember this car was built with the theme to do it like a young kid would have done it back in the day using used, scrounged and freeby parts whenever possible. It is cool but it is not perfect. It was never intended to be perfect. It is a Rat Rod. There are still things that don't work and things you can do if you want to improve it. Otherwise you can do what I have done with it in the five years I've had it. LOVE IT FOR IT'S PURE GOOD LOOKS, LOVE IT FOR IT'S QUIRKS, DRIVE IT AND HAVE FUN !!!! On the other hand. If you would rather re-restore it and make a shiny show car this is a good car to start with. This car is ready to go and have fun with TODAY !!! NO Searching For Parts ! ( " Hey , Do you know where I can get a NOS Whatsit for a '56 Ford Widget ?) NO Waiting For A Spot In The Restoration Shop !! ( Do they ever start when they say they will ?) NO HUGE SURPRISE BILLS FROM THE SHOP !!! (Project cars are "Money Pits" and Heartbreakers ! " Hey, that was just an estimate sir, this is what it costs !" ) NO Two Year Wait To Get Your Car Back !!!! ( "Oh, I didn't know you thought we would get your car done THIS YEAR....just be PATIENT, we'll get it done someday !") Despite What The Barrett-Jackson People Try To Convince You On TV, You Don't Have To Spend $100,000 To Have A Car People Will Admire !!! This Sweet Little 55 Ford Club Coupe Is For Sale Today For A Fraction Of What It Would Cost To Duplicate !!! This car is ready to drive to the car show NOW !!! In fact this car is ready to drive anywhere you want !!! Drive it to work ! Drive it to the store ! Drive it out to dinner ! Drive it to the Malt Shop for a burger, shake and fries ! Drive it on the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour next Summer ! Or better yet, How about packing up the family for a vacation cruising along Route 66, eatin' in the old diners and sleepin' in those funky old motels !!!
