Vehicle Detail
NISSAN 300zx Turbo 1986 Turbo 5-Speed Manual, CA || Awesome Car in Great Shape || Almost Entirely Restored with Stock Parts Practical Upgrades/Modifications || BRAND NEW PERFORMANCE TIRES Up for sale is my 1986 300ZX Turbo. This Z has the stock aero kit, T5 Transmission, and T3 turbo. I hate to let it go, but need the money. The car is in great shape - almost 100% original - has only tasteful, and practical modification upgrades like suspension, exhaust, and manual boost controller. Painted Ferrari Yellow (last owner). I am an experienced Z enthusiast. I owned a 1984 NA (non-turbo) in the past that had several issues this car has never had. This '86 turbo is in amazing shape. After going through so many things with my old '84, I was very happy to have paid a bit more for this car to have it in an already very progressed restoration. With a been there-done that approach, I was able to pay attention to even smaller details, and I have taken even better care of this car. The car has a plenty of miles, but at this point, it's about how it runs, if it has any leaks, if the engine and tranny are sound, and how is the condition of the body. General Features of 1986 300ZX Turbo: V6 2960 CC, Fuel Injected Engine, T5 Five Speed Manual Transmission, 200 HP @ 5200 rpm (stock 5-6 PSI -- this Z can be adjusted. Current set to 10 psi, giving it around 240 hp), Power Windows, Locks, and Mirrors, 16" Alloy Wheels, Rear Window Defrost and Heated Mirrors, Tilt Steering Wheel, T-Tops, Cruise Control, Fuel Low Warning System (Voice - also door open and headlight warning) Engine is in great condition providing excellent power. The Genuine Nissan injector campaign was performed on this car only about 15,000 miles ago, at which time a new timing belt, water pump, and other important maintenance was done (a fair comprehensive (though not complete) list is provided at the bottom of the listing). Handles like a dream (has 88 SS edition springs w/KYB Shocks). The transmission (T5) shifts effortlessly. When I purchased this car in (2005) I went through the entire car cleaning, replacing connectors and sensors, vacuum hoses, etc. Seats are in excellent shape. The only project left undone that I can think of is to replace the main carpet -- it has one hole, but aside from that is still in great shape. No water leaks around the windows, etc. I pulled the quarter panels and replaced the butyl seals (a laborious, but important maintenance procedure on this car), so they are clean and perfect. PICTURES of the Z FOR SALE (click on photo for larger format) Car is registered in the state of Utah. Passes emissions with flying colors - readings all close to ZERO: High Speed: HC 6 : 220 allowed, CO 0.01 : 1.20 allowed Idle Test: HC 10 : 220 allowed, CO 0.00 : 1.20 allowed Has been stored and hardly driven for about three years. I've started it often and driven it enough to keep oils flowing and gas fresh. The turbo plumbing was all removed, cleaned, and refitted to ensure no boost leaks. It holds a SOLID 10 psi (adjustable. This is considered a safe boost level for stock engine and injectors). Despite the mods, I drive mildly, but the power IS THERE if you want it. Car NEVER gets hot, even in the hottest of weather. Holds a solid temp right near or below the middle line. Here are a few specific things he had done to the car (within the last 5 years). If you want a complete list, I can email it to you. New injectors (via Nissan campaign -- all stock OEM components used) New Windshield Alternator Starter (BOSCH replacement) Timing Belt Service (60K, including water pump, idler pulley, etc) Full Tune-Up (Plugs, Wires, Cap/Rotor) Complete Cooling System Overhaul (brand new radiator, t-stat, hoses, etc) Brand new tires (very recently installed with the intent of having new tires on the car for next owner) The steering rack, high pressure hose, ball joints, tie rods, anti-sway bar bushings, and tension rod/strut bushings were all replaced with quality replacements (Moog) and with Urethane upgrades. Steering is tight and predictable. The ride is not harsh for city/freeway driving, and yet provides performance control when pushing it a bit. This was originally a California car and has virtually no rust. The car was repainted in Ferrari yellow. It is a great paint job. Fading a little, but nice. There are only a few spots (around rubber gaskets and front spoiler/aero parts) that show some red. Some of the original black painted chrome trim could use touching up. The engine bay was not painted, so it remains red (the original car color). The car starts right up and runs great. Gets typical mileage for a 1986 Z, though I've had phenominal freeway mileage. I've had as good as 28 mpg during long trips! Gas gauge sending unit has been replaced. Car also has a brand new OEM center console cover (details, details), so it's clean and not all ripped up like most originals. There are only four known problems with the car -- #1 is the AC. When I bought the car the AC worked, though I really seldom use the AC. I was using it on a hot day about a year ago and noticed it wasn't getting very cold. I never looked into it, because even in hot days, I prefer to drive with the windows down and t-tops off. It probably just needs to be leak tested and charged, but I'm not sure. Second known issue, though you typically should allow this anyway: you need to let the fuel pump prime until the pump relay shuts off (5 seconds) before starting the car. If you do that, no problems -- if you don't, the car will occasionally stumble at start up and you have to turn off the car and restart it as described. The next two things are really ticky-tack - but here goes: The headlamp washer system pump is dead. It needs to be replaced -- good luck -- most likely an aftermarket replacement would be the best route. Last, the driver side door window, when completely up, scuffs against the chrome trim in the door when you shut it. We're talking something pretty minor here, but I just thought I'd mention it. The car is otherwise perfectly mechanically sound. Cosmetically it is also in excellent condition. One body issue. Don't know how this happened. I certainly didn't do it. I believe it may have happened in a parking lot. Someone hit the front left of the car which cracked the signal marker (has been replaced). There is some minor damage to the panel there. Pictures provided below. There are a few other little marks in the paint. The previous owner had an aftermarket center console installed, which I hated, so I replaced it with a genuine Nissan cover - the previous cover left two drill holes on the side of the console (minor). The rear storage cover panel/door is missing. The driver side t-top shade was also missing. Email Me if you have any questions! CLICK ON ANY PICTURE BELOW FOR LARGER VERSION Exterior Interior NEW HEADLINER Tire/Tool Wells: Notorious on the Z is rust under the tools and spare tire. This is caused by leaking quarter-panel windows and taillight assembly. This car has no rust in these areas. It's perfect! Regardless, the windows and taillight assemblies have been removed and resealed just to be safe. See pictures below. Email Me if you have any questions! The car maintains a pretty much stock look inside and out, aside from the yellow paint, a color that never was available from Nissan (are they nuts! The whole reason I bought this car was for the yellow paint!) Basically everything else (sensors and other expensive stuff) has been replaced to get the engine bay looking clean and the car running like new. Engine Bay is CLEAN and DRY - good gaskets/seals. Virtually NO RUST on this car. You are getting a solid body on this beauty. This is really a major part of what you are buying with this car is a strong body with no cancer. 3" Certified Muffler COMPLETE exhaust (including downpipe and performance Catalytic Converter). This system is awesome, gives a great sound. The system cost $650, all mandrel bent, aluminized steel, a true quality product. It was professionally installed. (LINK to PRODUCT $595) KUMHO ECSTA AST 225/50 R16's all the way around. I put new tires on this car in preparation to sell it. You have near 100% tread on a quality set of AST (All-Season Performance) tires!: KUMHO ECSTA AST Description (Rates EXCELLENT in all categories - SNOW/ICE) STOCK PHOTOS OF KUMHO TIRES All speakers recently replaced with Infiniti Kappa speakers, and a Kicker subwoofer with customf box and an amp installed to compliment the new sound system. Sony MP3 CD deck. New yellow paint right before I bought it. The paint is in overall excellent shape. Only some minor flaws around some of the trim and a couple little scuffs (pictures show this below in detail). I've also replaced the headliner (it was sagging) and it looks REALLY good, I think better than the stock fuzzy brown stuff. Hatch carpet was removed and cleaned thoroughly. Has some minor stains on it. Tool kit in back in complete and in perfect shape, like it just came off the lot.d I've owned this Z for 5 years. It has been very well taken care of and driven very little (I work from home). Though most people wouldn't have done a thing to this car (as it was already running great), I get pretty anal about everything and I dumped another several thousand into sensors, hoses, etc, and meticulously went through the car to tidy up. I do not smoke - it does not smell like smoke, and no one has smoked in this car since I've owned it. There looks to be one cigarette mark from a previous owner, but again, I can't smell smoke. I have been picky about everything on this car. There are some subtle interior accents that I think give the car a great, more modern look (shifter was professional cut and rethreaded to make it shorter, and a Nissan Altima modified shift knob was attached). I usually upgraded any part that needed to be replaced (ie shocks, springs, etc). Terms of Sale (Begin) The car is being sold WITHOUT WARRANTY, AS IS.
