Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1978 Trans Am. This is a non-original car so for all you numbers-matching original-equipment buyers you should look elsewhere. The 400 was replaced in '98 with a ZZ4 Chevy 350 crate engine (shortblock). Big valve cast iron heads were installed along with a healthy cam and roller-tip rockers. I'm sorry but I don't remember any details of the cam, but you can hear it through about 2k rpm and it idles at 1200 rpm. It is equipped with an aluminum intake, a 750 holley double pumper, headers and a full exhaust system with 40 series Flowmasters. A special fiberglass hood scoop base was professionally made to keep the shaker on the engine and a Howe aluminum radiator with an electric fan was installed along with a 160 degree thermostat. This was originally an automatic car but was changed over to a Borg-Warner 4-speed and a cast iron bell housing was installed. The rear axle gears were also changed to 4:10 and chrome traction bars were added. This Trans Am runs and drives excellent and stops straight. The car looks completely stock and innocent, but it will move. In 1998, the car was restored and repainted Polar White with new decals. There is no rust on the floors, subframe, rear frame rails or in the trunk. The car was involved in an accident in 2003, being hit in the right rear quarter. I have had people tell me it can be fixed by pushing it out from the inside and then refinished. Instead, I sold the car in 2004 to my nephew who was going to fix it, but nothing was done and it has been sitting since then. I bought the car back a couple months ago, replaced both rear tires, the master cylinder and left front caliper, tuned up the engine with new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. It has also been serviced including the air filter. The rest of the car is clean, with the exception of the lower rear portion on the front fenders. There is a very small area where they need some attention (See pictures). It does have a few scratches and rock chips but are hardly noticeable. The steering wheel is in excellent shape, all of the lights work, the glass is good and the power windows both work fine. The car is very presentable even with the dent in the right rear. The interior is in excellent condition and needs nothing. I have set the reserve very low for this car. A $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close, and full payment within 7 days. Please do not bid if you cannot pay. Will sell to the United States only and you are responsible for pick up. Payment by cash or certified check only.
