Vehicle Detail
I bought the car in 1976 when I was a junior in high school. It was most definitely in a previous frontal fender bender prior to my purchase. Signs of bodywork were apparent…; the hood didn’t look original because the underside of the hood was a different color. Also bodywork on the top-side of the hood and a slight discoloration of the paint was visible on both front fenders in comparison to the rest of the car. Sadly…, during a night of high school carousing, I rammed the car into a Taco Bell sign while backing up in haste. Even more sad is when I loaned the car out in 1980 to a college roommate and he put the car out of commission with another frontal fender bender. The saddest part was when we were pulling the car out from a very shady wrecking yard who, within two days, had already started stripping the car of its treasures…; while weaving it in and out of a disorganized horde of wrecked cars in the yard by way of a truck and chain, the drivers side door, due to being opened to see and steer my way out of the maze of cars happened to catch the side of another car and crunch, the drivers side door got tweaked. When it rained…, it truly poured. We towed the car from Phoenix back to my parents’ house by Safford, AZ and there it has sat for thirty years. I had high aspirations to one day fix the car up over the decades but, time, money and a place to restore it proved to be evasive. The mileage odometer reads 94,926. In all honesty…, I believe this to be rolled over making it 194,926 miles. The car was still running and functional outside of needing a new radiator when it was parked in 1980. The motor is not frozen up. The radiator was discarded years ago. The frame looks to be sound and untouched. All damage by my own assessment looks to be strictly cosmetics. Rust has taken a toll on the bottom of both back fenders, a small section on the passenger side floor, and also a small spot on the front panel by the battery stand. All other rust is very slight and minor surface rust, the roof in particular. The interior speaks for itself…; the weather was unforgiving for the last thirty years. Critters also had their fun chewing on the rear seats. The front bucket seats are obviously not original…, they came with the car when I bought it in ’76. Please look at the photos very close. The structural bracing and brackets that directly applies to securing the front bumper, and grill and frontal skirt are no doubt damaged. Please take this in consideration. Both doors open and close from inside and out. All windows and the glove box function just fine. All glass is in tact. There is a clean title. And there is a set of keys. It isn’t hard to vision the beauty of this car even through all of the cuts, and wounds and damage. It is truthfully a…“diamond in the rough”…ready and willing to serve a true and enthusiastic visionary. Please feel free to ask any questions via e-Mail.
