Vehicle Detail
1974 Honda XL-250 Motosport. 5506 Original Miles. I am the second owner and bought the bike two years ago. Plans were to restore, but have too many other pending issues that are creating this sale and this is in the condition I bought it in (I have done nothing to it). The bike starts, idles, shifts and runs great. No smoke or clutch slippage. Brakes work as they should. The inside of the tank is clean. The tank has one tiny dent on the right side, back middle (possibly you can see in picture) and has some minor chips and a couple small rubs on the right side near the cap. The guages have no fading or cracking. The speedo & tach needle tips show some fading. Great original condition which could be restored to the next level if desired. There is a slow oil leak from the left lower side of the engine and I suspect shift shaft seal or counter shaft seal (cheap easy replacements). The back of the front fender has rub marks from the tach cable not being secured into it's clip. Tires look nearly new with very minimal wear. There is no battery and battery ends under seat have been taped over by original owner. The rear shocks do not rebound properly and appear to have been leaking oil. This bike was designed to run without a battery, but a battery will be required to have lights and turn signals operate properly. It uses a very small and inexspensive battery. There is no owners manual or tool kit. Clear title. It's a blast to ride, but I have too many others right now. Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping arrangements. On Oct-24-10 at 16:11:16 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that the original owner said he removed the skid plate when purchased, as he thought it "didn't look good". After an extensive search, he could not find it, so it is not included. Also the header pipe has some rust and would need cleaned and re-painting to look like new. Besides a quick wipe down, I have not washed the bike, so it will look better with a good detailing. Please remember the age of the bike and that there will be the typical condition issues you would expect with an unrestored 36 year old bike. People that have seen it comment on how really-nice it looks. I have done museum quality restorations for many years, so am more critical than the average person. I have seen sellers with bikes in worse condition than this use words like "mint" and "perfect", but this bike retains it's original patina and I have attempted to give an honest description of the bike. I believe this bike has the potential to be made very nice without too much trouble.
