This is a very decent original 1966 Beetle. Everything is original except: The paint, the electrical has been converted to 12v and the original 1300cc engine has been replaced with an 1835 Bernie Bergman engine with dual Solex carbs, quad exhaust, a big cam and electronic ignition. See more details of engine below. Interior needs to be redone but is all present and original black. Paint is decent but needs polishing. I'd planned on repainting to the original color so I haven't applied any wax or polish. Some scratching on the hood where it blew over during engine installation. No bodywork I know of except in the right front fender. There is No rust anyplace that I've seen. I believe I'm the third owner. Original color (still on dash and jambs) was Bahama Blue, now sky blue. The 1300 was bad when I got it but was otherwise stone stock. The motor I found was in a kit car which a Dr had started and never completed before he died. I bought that kit car from his son who had driven it around the block once or twice a year to keep it running. The kit car was never street legal and I do have the receipt from Bergman around someplace, though probably no longer legible (weak carbon copy and faded). The motor was $3,100 as I recall but not positive and has less than 50 miles on it total. It was installed and tuned by my local VW shop who tested and ok'd the motor on an engine stand prior to installation. The transmission doesn't pop out of gear like some, shifts properly and is nice and quiet. Brakes are perfect, suspension is nice and tight, steers very well. Battery is new, regulator is new but the Alt light stays on so I guess it's not charging (haven't driven it enough to know for sure). The car is in Ballico, Ca 95303.
