Vehicle Detail
History: This vehicle, patent plate # 63B-CEE-AX-15L-A, is a two-door hardtop and was manufactured in San Jose, CA in November 1957. It was originally painted Ember Red with a Snow White roof and scallop, but at some point was painted all black. The interior was originally white vinyl and red cloth but was later almost completely replaced with red and black vinyl. It was a "west coast" car until 2004 when I purchased it from an owner in Oregon and moved it here to Maine. Based on information provided to me by the prior owner, I estimate the car's mileage to be 75,000, 8,000 of which I have driven. Of the approximately 111,000 1958, 1959 and 1960 Edsels made, Edsel.com reports that only 6,000 survive. Specifications and features: It has a 361 cubic inch engine with a four-barrel carburator generating 303 horsepower; a Teletouch transmission and a Ford 9-inch rearend with 2:91 gearing and dual exhausts. The carburator is aftermarket as is the manual choke and electronic ignition, otherwise it is a very original car. It has no power options or air conditioning. It does have vacuum-operated windshield wipers and fuel pump, fender skirts, tinted glass, aftermarket carpeting, two seat belts front and rear, new kick panels installed and new trunk panels (not installed), backup lights, front and rear bumper guards, courtesy lights, padded visors, hooded sideview mirrors, spinner wheel covers and five (5) low-mileage radial tires. Parts and technical information: I have some used, spare parts including two radio cores (one standard and one "Town & Country), two brake drum cores and two used sets of brake shoes, heater parts, transmission parts (7003-B), a spare steering column with a Teletouch wiring harness, another set of backup lights, spare hood lock, remanufactured oil pump, two fuel pump cores, extra instrument panel, spare clock and fuel gauge, rear differential with 2:91 gears, some transmission parts and perhaps one or two other items I can't now recalI - I cannot vouch for their condition. There is also an inexpensive car cover and a set of standard wheel covers. All parts must go with the car!!! I have fifteen (15) technical manuaIs and records of all work done to it by competent mechanics since I've owned it but have no records of work done prior to my ownership. Current condition: This car is a "driver" and I rate it's condition to be somewhere between a 3.5 and 4. It is "tired" and is showing it's age. Work needed: It is hard to start (probably vacuum fuel pump issue) but then runs fine. Teletouch motor and relays have been rebuilt and although transmission sometimes "thumps" into gear, it has been adjusted and works fine. The rear axle bearings need to be replaced and the brakes work well but pull to the left. The turn signal is tempermental, the heater box and hoses are not installed (the system may be lacking some parts) and the ventilation system controls need adjusting. The clock is broken and there is no radio installed. The body needs some rust repair in the rocker panels and quarters and the paint is scratched and chipped in places. The chrome bumpers have some dents and numerous scratches, the stainless trim needs some polishing and some dents fixed and the windshield has old wiper scratches. There is no trunk mat as no supplier currently makes one. The upholstery is in very good condition and the kick panels are new. The headliner is faded and has some small holes and the instrument panel and the interior painted surfaces could use some cosmetic rehabilitation. Mechanics have always kept the vehicle in safe running condition even though no state inspections have been required as it is registered and insured as an antique car. The vehicle has no title; none was given to me and Maine does not require cars of a certain age to have one. The vehicle has always been kept in a locked, indoor storage unit. Buyer must take possession of the vehicle and all it's parts within thirty (30) days of auction close. Please ask any questions you may have and I will answer them honestly!
