Vehicle Detail
Try to look beyond this horrendous brush paint job that the previous owner did back in 1992 and see this Bus for what it truly is! A very rust free, unmolested, never been restored, without body work, hiding who knows what Bus! You can find plenty of rotted out Buses on here and on Craigslist for under $2000.00 and spend plenty more then that getting it ready for paint. So think about what you are getting into when you buy one of these for the first time. They are known for rusted out front beams. The inner front fender wells rust so bad that the seat belt mounts are worthless and water floods the cargo area! And the battery box area is a given rusted out mess on pretty much every VW pre-1979 and this one is no different so expect to see that. The heating tubes from the engine that run up to the front rot out in all sorts of random spots, so be sure to check them for pop cans and bailing wire! This one still has the factory insulation on it that should really be removed to keep from trapping water, but for now I just want to show how solid this bus really is! The windshield rubber dries out and lets in water then it sits on the floor rotting that out. This one not exempt, but its not bad at all. It's the first on my list to be replaced with a new windshield if it doesn't sell. A little bit about this 1973 Type 2 Bus. It has been sitting for over 18 years and was parked as a driver when, from what I was told, it just quit running. When I picked it up the first thing was to rid the engine compartment of the rats nest. Then I flushed the gas tank and put fresh gas in with a new electric fuel pump, new gas filters, changed the oil & filter, adjusted the valves with new valve cover gaskets, new points, condenser, cap, rotor, Bosch wires, spark plugs and repaired the chewed up wires in the engine bay. They only got to the engine compartment so everything else was good throughout the bus. I then moved on to the brakes and replaced the front brake hoses and flushed out the system with fresh brake fluid. Put in a decent battery and took it for a ride! The front end felt great with no slop and it stopped pretty good too. If it weren't for the #3 exhaust valve having a loose valve stem, and the push rod tubes leaking oil I would say drive it home, but it would be best to have that head redone or replaced, and I have a good used one that goes with it. Now considering all my projects I stopped right here and weighed my options. 1) Continue with what needs to be done to drive the bus like fresh tires, window rubber & windshield, work the heads over and fresh seals or 2) Go all out and do the minor body work then paint it up nice. then sell it for way more maybe keep it or 3) Sell it now as is and move on to another one of my many projects. With that said understand that I am fine with keeping this Bus but I am also fine with selling it to someone looking for a project Bus that will take very little time & money to make show ready! Check out my walk around video & hear it run on Photo-bucket: >>>>>> <<<<<< Or on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK1V0huDIF8 The pictures tell a thousand words, and there is much more in the videos so be sure to check them out and notice how solid the out riggers, under body, dog legs, front beam, heat tubes & very expensive type 4 heat exchangers are! I actually question if the 44,000 miles it shows on the odometer is not correct because all this shows is signs of sitting in the weather with mostly sun damage. Transmission was quiet with tight steering. Even the original looking shocks felt fine! It has a 009 distributer and Weber progressive carburetor kit and the after market old school wheels look to be in great shape and just need to be refinished. If you need more pictures, want to talk personally, come by to see it or whatever, just shoot me a message and I will make it happen! I don't do Craigslist because of the time wasters so please serious buyers only! The starting bid with no reserve is based off a local offer and my personal opinion of what I feel is the minimum value is. I also have it for sale local so at any moment I can or will end this auction . If you bid on this item your bid is an agreement that you have read this discription COMPLETLY and understand what this is and how it will be paid for and picked up before placing the bid. Thanks for checking it out!
