Vehicle Detail
Rare honda Transalp. Needs carb work or coils or both. It keeps fouling the plugs after 50-100 miles. This bike does not burn oil. I purchased this bike in Oakland CA in 2005. It ran great until I moved to North Dakota. After setting for a winter I have never been able to keep it running well. It may be the 2500' altitude change. I have a hard time paying for someone to do what I think I can do for myself so I spent most of this riding season changing plugs and unsuccessfully adjusting the carb. I was going to give in and take it to the Honda dealer when I got a job in Europe. Hondas been selling the Transalp successfully in Europe for several years. So I've decided to pick up a new one over there. There is no way I would let this one get away otherwise. The Transalp is the original Dual Sport and was only sold in the U.S as '89 and '90 models. It was ahead of it's time and we were not ready for this style of bike. Honda has been able to sell as many as they want in Europe and have never needed to bring this great bike back to the U.S. Today several companies sell dual sports here, but the Transalp was the first and therfore a bit of MC history. The transalp is no powerhouse but it comfortably rides at 80+mph on the Hwy and will wind down gravel & dirt roads with ease. There are several websites devoted to this bike. Go check them out and then decide if you want to bid on mine. The engine is bullett proof and should easily run another 27,000 miles. So here is all the dirt on this bike because I do not want anyone disappointed. This bike is a 20 yr old, running, well used Motorcycle. The crazy paint scheme is courtesy of my kids. When I purchaed the bike the paint was severely sunbaked and cracked. I went with a new custom paint job courtesy of my little Van Gogh's. It's a paint job that only a dad could love so I expect you would want to change it. The fenders are the original blue. All the pieces are intact but I have done some fiberglass repairs to some exterior pieces and there are small cracks in some of the panels. To repaint it, the panels would need to be reglued and smoothed in a few spots. The guy who had it in Oakland kept it outside and rust is superficial but extensive. (See pictures) Very little on this bike is mint but it is functional. It has new back brakes, new rear blinkers and the tires are in almost new condition. This bike is perfect for some who wants to restore a rare bike or want's to ride a bit of nostalgia without breaking the bank. If you care about image and faking coolness, Transalps are not for you. If you genuinally enjoy riding and going places, on and off the paved surface, then this bike or any Dual Sport is right up your alley. Please ask questions I will try to answer them all. I will e-mail you more pictures if there's something specific you want to see on the bike. Happy bidding Orin
