Brighton Motorsports is please to offer this very nice 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280-SL Roadster – the famous W-113 “Pagoda Roof” SL roadster that was the direct heir to the DNA of the Mercedes-Benz Gullwing supercars. This Mercedes-Benz 280-SL is equipped with the 170-horsepower 2.8 liter inline 6-cylinder Bosch multi-port fuel injected engine, manual 4-speed transmission, and it has both soft-top and removable hard-top. The soft-top canvas is in excellent condition and appears new. This beautiful car is finished in the rarely seen and beautiful dark Maroon paint over black interior, and features the distinctive US-market wood trim, wood dash and wood center console box. The overall condition of the paint, interior, chrome and trim is good. This is a proper US-spec car for export – not a grey-market or modified European version. Most 280-SL cars built for the U.S. market were equipped with automatic transmission, so very few are found with the manual transmission like this car. This car is a pleasure to drive – its excellent road manners are due to its fully-independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and rear-wheel drive layout. Although very stout and sturdy in construction, the 280-SL keeps weight down by using all-aluminum panels for the doors, hood and trunk. It was delivered new in the Northeast - which is where it spent most of its life before coming to Arizona. Much of the near-recent service history is well documented, with most of the cars major components being serviced very thoroughly and recently. Also included is all of the original factory documentation – owners manual, dealer directories, service and warranty booklet and Protect-o-Plate. It also has its original Mercedes-Benz tool set, spare tire cover, and a newer fitted fabric car cover is included. Being a car of this age, and coming originally from the Northeast, this car is not without rust in the chassis. This does not affect the drivability of the car in any way, but at some point the underside rust will need to be addressed and repaired. Fortunately, there are a number of suppliers of high-quality replacement pans, rocker panels and pieces that need to be replaced. Even so, this car can be purchased so far under market value that it makes this project very worthwhile to undertake. Please keep in mind we have priced this car already taking into account the need for this work to be done. Today, the W-113 Pagoda is considered a highly desirable collectors car, with current values for the 280-SL suggesting that it is the most desirable of all of SL models.
