BMW ads referred to the 503 as " an elegant luxury travel sports car from the stable of the large BMW eight-cylinder cars." The 'large eight-cylinder cars' was a reference to the Baroque Angels, BMW's mainstay at the time. BMW introduced the 503 at the Geneva Auto Show in 1955. Like the 502 which preceded it, the 503 featured a OHV 3.2 litre V-8, 2x2 barrel carb setup the most modern engine of its day and Germany's first eight since the war. The engine produced 140 bhp @ 4500 rpm, 4 speed manual transmission and it powered the 503 to a top speed of 118 mph. Accompanied by an elegant all Aluminum Convertible body. This is a Super Rare BMW and most likely will not so easily find another one available for sale! first laid eyes on this car more than 10 years ago as it sat in an underground garage amist at least 50-60 other collectible cars, At the time it was all there in un-restored condition Red exterior Red Interior Black convertible Top and had been there in the same spot since 1977. Later that same year this car was transported to Mount Vernon New York where the Restoration Process was begun but never finished only reaching to the point of what you see now primed & ready for paint. All it needs is to be finished, My understanding is that it was running when parked and I have never seen it run, But than again I have never seen anyone make an attempt either, But regardless it will be sold in as/is where is condition. Most of the parts are either in the car itself and I believe the seats are around also, But dont hold me to it, What ever we do have for this car you are certainly welcome to have it. The factory 16 inch Polyglas tires seem not to have any flat spots, The undercarriage looks solid and in drivers quality condition.
