Vehicle Detail
I am selling my brother's 1948 Studebaker pickup truck for him. I don't know a whole lot about this truck but I am sure that you Studebaker guys out there would. I will start with what I know (or at least what I believe). I believe that this is a 1948 but it could be a 1949. My brother bought it from an old woman about 5 years ago or so near where he was living at the time. I believe the woman said it was her husband's who had passed on. What i believe is that this is a 1/2 ton. It comes with an inline L-head 6 cylinder and a 4 speed transmission which is all intact. I checked the engine when he bought it and it was not tight then but I cannot guarantee that now. I suspect it is loose as it has either sat in his garage or barn since he bought it. I t seems mostly complete, all of the guages and switches are there (although I cannot verify functionality) and all of the rest of the controls are there. As I mentioned, the engine and transmission seem to be complete, but the wiring would need to be replaced to make it functional. I did not look, but I imagine all of the brakes are original an intact. All of the sheetmetal is there and has some degree of surface rust on it. The front fenders are banged up but he has bettter ones that will go with this truck. I did not see any holes rusted through but I didn't take a really close look to verify that either. I myself am not a huge Studebaker fan, however I do read quite a few car magazines and have a general idea how desireable these are. From what I've read, a lot of people love these vehicles because of the smooth body lines and flowing design that was years ahead of its time. I wish that I had the time and money to tackle this project as I belive that it would be a blast to do and a person would really have something cool and rare when it is done unfortunately that is not the case. Niether him nor I am trying to decieve any of you, but the plain turth is that neither one of us knows much about these. What I do know is that is a cool old truck that would make a great project (especially a father/son;father/daughter;mother/son or mother/daughter project). If anyone has any questions, please let me know and i will try my best to answer them. if anyone would like more pictures, I can send some as well.I am trying to help him out because he is in kind of tight spot right now. It was always a dream of his to finish this up but sometimes life throws you curves. The truck does not have a title and would need to be picked up as he cannot ship it. I can however assist in loading it as long as it would not be too difficult. As far as payment is concerned, he prefers cash, you know real greenbacks. No checks, credit cards or money orders, just plain old cash. And, please, no non-paying bidders. Neither him nor I have time for that. If you are truly interested and you have the financial means, please bid and bid to win. Good luck and happy bidding!! I was just over by my brother's house tonight and snapped some more pictures if anyone is interested. I took a real good look at the vehicle and discovered a few things. I had said previously that there were no rust holes; well I did end up finding some. They are located on the driver's side floor pan right by the door and there were some on the back of the cab corners as well. I also lifted the hood and discovered the radiator had been pulled and the carburetor removed. Both of those items are inside the cab right now. I also discovered that the extra fenders that go with it are actually rear fenders and not front fenders as I had earlier stated. I am really sorry if I mislead anyone as that was not my intention. I hadn't seen the vehicle in a while and, last I saw, it was all in one piece. In any case, because of this new found information, I have adjusted the price to reflect the actual condition of the truck. I sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding. If anyone needs any more information or pictures, please email me.
