Vehicle Detail

For auction is a one owner 1980 Triumph TR-7 convertible in British racing green that looks like new! The car has been garaged most of its life and the exterior and interior are in excellent condition. The car runs and drives like new with no shakes and rattles. I bought the car new in the fall of 1980 and have been the sole driver of it since then. Although it has 126488 miles on it, the car has been babied and never driven hard. The engine is a 2 liter, single overhead cam with twin carburetors. There are no engine oil leaks and it burns no oil. The car has a five speed manual transmission that shifts smoothly and positively. The clutch engages smoothly with no slip or chatter. The air conditioning has been maintained and operates without any problem. The car handles and drives excellently with no drift and predictable cornering. The interior of the car is like new. The upholstery is without tears or rips and is clean. Both seats are still firm with slight wear. The dash is intact with no cracks or discoloration. The radio is a Kenwood AM/FM CD stereo with door mounted speakers that sounds great for a small two-seater. All the lights work and none of the lens have any cracks. There are some small cosmetic scratches on the door edges, wheel wells and a small worn spot in the convertible top. For those not familiar with the TR-7 I provide the following information. The Triumph TR7 was a sports car manufactured from September 1974 to October 1981 by the Triumph Motor Company (which was part of British Leyland) in the United Kingdom. The car was launched in the United States in January 1975, with its UK home market debut in May 1976. The UK launch was delayed at least twice because of high demand for the vehicle in the US. The car was characterized by its "wedge" shape, which was commonly advertised as: "The Shape of Things to Come," and by a curved line in the bodywork sweeping down from the door area to the rear of the car. The design was penned by Harris Mann who also designed the wedge-shaped Leyland Princess. During development, the TR7 was referred to by the code name "Bullet". Power was provided by a 1998 cc 8-valve four-cylinder engine which shared the same basic design as the Triumph Dolomite Sprint engine mounted in-line at the front of the car. In early 1979, Triumph introduced a convertible version, called the TR7 Drophead, which first went on sale in the US. The British market received it in early 1980. It is often forgotten that the convertible version of the original Harris Mann design was done by Michelotti.
