Vehicle Detail

Hello Jaguar XKE and/or Jaguar E-Type lovers. I am listing this car for a friend who inherited this car after his Father's passing in 1992. This car has been owned by the Hurley family of Pittsburgh Pa. since approximately 1979 or 1980. Vince Hurley was a past President and served on the Board of Directors of the Jaguar Club of Pittsburgh from the mid 1970's until his untimely death in May 1992. Vince's son, Butch, inherited the car after his Father's death and has kept it stored in a heated garage (driven a few times a year) ever since. Butch is a mechanic himself and has maintained the car in the same impeccable way his Father did. Vince restored this Series 1 4.2 liter Jaguar XKE roadster over about a seven year period in the 1980's and he was very passionate about his two E-Types. Butch sold his Father's 1970 E-Type in 1994 but he kept this Series 1 1965 XKE for himself This car has its original driveline; original engine (rebuilt in the 1980's), original gearbox, newly rebuilt rear brakes and rear end assembly. The car is Carmen red with a factory correct black leather interior and black cloth convertible top. The five matching wire wheels and tires are like new (the chrome wire wheels and tires have very few miles on them). Each component in the engine compartment shines like brand- each piece (alternator, 2" SU carbs, intake manifold, porcelain exhaust manifolds, cam covers, air cleaner, heater core box) looks like it was just re-built yesterday. Each piece on this car is correct for the 1965 E-type. Vince Hurley was a stickler for originality and he made sure the car was done correctly. Butch says that some of the restoration work was done at North Coast Exotics in Cleveland. This car was just featured at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix on July 24, 2010 when/where the attached photos were taken. This show was a Jaguar Clubs of North America sanctioned, Jaguar Club of Pittsburgh sponsored Concours and the car scored 9.99 in the driven class. The car has original drivers manual, tool kit, hammer, jack, matching spare tire and wheel in the boot. The cars VIN# is 1E11046, Gear box #EJ3128 , Body Number #4E2305, Engine Number #7E4076-9. The black leather interior is in almost new condition, looks great and is factory correct down to the screws and fasteners. The black cloth top (with shot weight bag to prevent buffeting at speed) is in perfect condition as is the top frame which is painted the correct yellowish/gray color. The rear boot area is in perfect condition with the correct black insulation pads in the spare tire area. Although the odometer shows 2142 miles, both Butch and I believe that the odometer was changed at some point during the restoration. The odometer probably shows only the mileage since the car was restored. Butch remembers that the cars engine was "gone over" with a new head gasket, new head bolts (about 16" long) and new acorn nuts sometime in the mid 1980's; but Butch has no receipts or bills for any of the work done to the car as his Father did not keep receipts. Butch does have receipts for recent work done to the car; such as new rear brake calipers, new rear brake lines, rear brake pads, rear bushings/bearings. The car's restoration has held up very well. The Carmen red paint, chrome, interior and rubber gaskets all look brand new; as if they were restored yesterday. This car has no rust anywhere on the car and every component/accessory/light/switch works as it should. THIS XKE LOOKS GREAT AND DRIVES JUST AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS! THIS CAR NEEDS NOTHING. You can buy this car and make it a trailer queen taking it to JCNA Concours events OR you can buy it to drive and enjoy. I have many photos of the car that I can send to you via e-mail. You can fly into the Pittsburgh Airport and I will pick you up to view and test drive this great car. Two JCNA National Officers know of this car and have known the Hurley Family for many years; these two men have volunteered to give testimony as to the condition of this car. Phone me to get these names and phone numbers. I can also give names and phone numbers of local Jaguar mechanics/restorers who will look at the car for you and give an appraisal (for a fee). IF YOU HAVE EVER WANTED A SERIES 1 E-TYPE ROADSTER, THIS IS THE ONE TO PURCHASE; AND, AT A VERY GOOD PRICE. The "buy it now" price is $75,000.00 and the reserve is set a bit lower than that- SO BID TO WIN THIS CAR! Butch has priced this car to sell. He is selling the car because he does not drive the car and he has children that he wants to send to college, a mortgage and other car payments to pay. Please phone Dan at 412-680-1639 with any questions about the car or to arrange a viewing and test drive of the car. If you want to speak to the owner, Butch Hurley, I can give you his phone number, but he is available only in the evenings as he works days. Please be advised that we reserve the right to end this auction early as we have advertised and shown the car locally to a few people since the July Vintage Grand Prix. Please do not hesitate to phone with any questions: this is a wonderful car that the owner hates to sell as it was his Father's passion, but it just does not fit into his plans and is not his passion. THANKS FOR LOOKING, Dan. PS: I just had a question about whether or not we have a Heritage Certificate for this Jaguar. I checked with Butch, the owner, and WE DO HAVE THE JAGUAR HERITAGE CERTIFICATE FOR THIS CAR AND IT SHOWS THAT THIS CAR IS PAINTED IN ITS ORIGINAL RED COLOR WITH THE ORIGINAL BLACK INTERIOR COLOR ALSO. I will add that to the E-Bay photos if I can. Yes, the certificate will go with the car when sold: as will the correct original tool kit. Thanks for the questions. Dan On Aug-23-10 at 22:11:04 PDT, seller added the following information: I now have the Heritage Certificate for this car. The Heritage Certificate is dated January 7, 1987 and is actually called a "Vehicle Information Sheet". The Information shows that the car was built on 21 May 1965, and was Carmen Red with Black interior color and Black soft top. The Information sheet is from Jaguar Cars and signed by Mr. I.M. Luckett. The car is exactly the same colors today as when it left the factory in May 1965. I can e-mail a copy of this Information Sheet upon request but I cannot add it to my E-Bay photos. Thanks, Dan.
