THIS IS IT! RARE OPPORTUNITY! IT'S THE ONE!...1978 VW Westy in ORIGINAL CONDITION... This beauty is not restored. It has been garage kept and pampered since new. I am the fourth owner and need to make room for a new "toy" so....... YOU can take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to own an original, unmolested piece of VW history! History of ownership: Originally purchased at Columbia Heights Motors in Minneapolis in 1978, pleasure driven and stored inside in winter. Professionally rustproofed when new. Second owner purchased in 1998 with approx 39,000 actual miles and was also stored inside in the winter. It moved to Colorado in 2006 with it's owner. Third owner purchased in 2008 with approx 50,000 miles and it moved to Texas until... I purchased in April 2009 with 50,664 miles and has also been only pleasure driven, stored in winter and camped in only once. This Westy features the following: Strong running original 2.0L engine w/fuel injection 4 speed manual transmission Power assist front disc brakes New Hankook RA08 tires (correct for vehicle) BA6 gas heater (fuel line capped/can be reconnected) Mint original interior Working sink and faucet Ice box Privacy curtains Closet with original clothes hangar Rear hatch bug screen Camp stool Side tent Front dash table Rear dining table Front childs cot Overhead light (above sink) All original manuals Factory build sheet Perfect poptop canvas Original fire extinguisher (newer one also included) Starts, runs, shifts and stops as it should Everything works!!! All original body metal with no rust (light surface rust underneath as expected) I have done the following since I purchased: Push rod tube seals (to stop a slight oil leak) Pertronix electronic ignition (no more points) Spark plugs and wires Sink water pump Shifter bushing (fixed a rattle) CV boot Rear brake hoses Replaced ALL rubber fuel lines and filter New muffler Bamboo parcel trays Windshield seal All maintenance is up to date DRIVE IT ANYWHERE!!! As stated, this is an UNRESTORED vehicle and it does show some "patina", mainly on the bumpers. The front bumper is damage free but does have light scratches. The rear bumper was pushed in slightly on the drivers side at some point but did not touch the body and also has some scratches. It could be easily replaced as the bumpers are readily available and inexpensive. The nose and passenger door were repainted at some point, the rest of the paint is original and shines nicely. There are some light touch ups here and there but only noticeable if you look for them up close. There are no dents to speak of. The poptop is missing the WESTFALIA logo sticker and you can see where it was. I have the new sticker to install from the previous owner. When I purchased this vehicle I decided to leave everything as original as it was, that's just me. One could easily restore these few "character flaws" back to new condition if desired. Like they say..."They're only original ONCE" It was a real "crowd pleaser" at two car shows this summer where it also won awards! Email any questions...serious inquiries only, please... One original key operates ignition and all door locks, one extra copy is also included.On Aug-24-10 at 16:28:38 PDT, seller added the following information: The camper sleeps up to five...there is a full bed up top that folds out and sleeps two adults, the rear bench seat (Z Bed) folds down and also sleeps two adults. There is a child's cot that attaches over/across the front seats. Non-smoker vehicle...the ash trays have never been used. All carpet is original and spotless throughout. All upholstery, including the front seats, is original and flawless, the cushions are firm like new. Poptop canvas is original and in excellent condition as are both zippers. All gauges, lights, horn, even the door buzzer works (I did unplug the buzzer because it can be annoying but it can easily be plugged back in) It is a factory radio delete...nothing has ever been tampered with regarding this (wiring, etc) All of the interior factory stickers and decals are intact. The heater and defroster work great, you can actually feel the air blowing when in use! Original RV electrical cord is included. The side tent comes with a set of factory instructions for easy assembly. The original cover over the battery is still present. Camp stool is in perfect condtion. The original factory paint shines like new. This camper is a blast to drive and always seems to put smile on people's faces when they see it. The next lucky owner WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED...
