Vehicle Detail

All original 3 speed and overdrive. Smooth running, shifting and braking. Needs nothing mechanically except the carburetor idle circuit seems not spot on. It's smooth but not perfect as it starts slow. May be my technique. Was converted to manual choke sometime so maybe that's it. I have only had it two months. It was my intention to do a refinish but I bought a boat needing work at a ridiculous price and boating season will end soon, so..... The overall condition is a three minus on 6 scale (best guess). Chrome, glass, etc is good to excellent. One crack in drivers vent wing (hard to see) but the important starlight glass is perfect. Paint is a 20 footer and there are signs that some bondo was used and the primer was probably so-so as a few surface spots are showing. No blistering or flaking. No dents. No rust through anywhere on the lower chassis that I can see, especially floors and trunk. Pitting rust underneath of course. The gas tank is newish. Upholstery is serviceable but not original. Headliner is in need of cleaning. See the appraisal report of 1991 indicating the engine was rebuilt and the current condition of the engine confirms it. No smoke, 30 psi at idle with hot oil, 50 at speed. All guages work except speedometer. Mileage is unknown. All lights/horn work etc. Tires look new and tread is 80%. I think the correct size is 6.50 and these are 6.70. The last title I have in my possesion is pictured but it was registered in Alabama last unknown years ago and has evidently been going from owner to owner on bills of sale. Lots of horse trading in Alabama it seems. The VIN is the engine block number, common in those early days. This is my first Studebaker. I am impressed with information and the magazine available from the Studebaker Drivers Club as well as the wealth of parts from vendors. There are SDC chapters everywhere. And the parts are cheap! The right front brake needed a reline (one shoe's lining broke) and it was $30. I have the CD of the factory repair manual and the body parts manual. It is included as well as the chemicals shown in the pictures. Overall, an attractive and historical collector car that WILL appreciate. September 4 is National Drive Your Studebaker Day. Get in on the fun. Appraisal in 1991 was $5400 so my Buy It Now price is low. On Jul-27-10 at 17:17:00 PDT, seller added the following information:There are three 1/4 inch bubbles on the trunk lid and one on the left door jamb. This is what I meant by 20 foot paint. But you can drive it forever as is because the car presents so well.
