Vehicle Detail
Featured is a 1950 1/2 ton Chevrolet pick-up STREET ROD. This highly modified vehicle is absolutely one of a kind as is every custom build street rod. Unlike the vast majority of restored vehicles this truck was build to drive not just show. Since its restoration 7 years ago the odometer has logged 14,000 trouble free miles. Though the restoration and finish are very nice this is obviously not a new vehicle nor is it a newly restored street rod but still very nice. Certainly suitable for the local show or drive-in/cruise. This vehicle was built to DRIVE on the street. Also does well at highway speeds though 60mph is a reasonable speed for what is in reality a restored and highly modified vintage farm implement thats now 60 years old. Body and paint; This truck was first restored many years ago (15 or more) and the bodywork has been in place since that last restoration. There is no rust issues of any kind on it and the panels are all very straight. Im told that the paint is urethane without clear do to the fact that clear actually dulls the true shade of black. I do not know who first built this truck I only know that its beautiful and solid. Great care has been taken to keep the paint in as nice condition as it was 7 years ago. The reality of driving a vehicle on the street for 14,000 miles is that it is and will be chipped on the front from tiny rocks that fly up from the street. These chips have been carefully brush touched and are quite unnoticeable unless you are a micro spec chip and nick inspector. Chassis; Front suspension is a high quality HEIDT'S fully independent rack and pinion with disc brakes (springs not coil-overs or bags). Rear end is from an SS Monte Carlo and is a 3:42 limited slip unit, drum brakes. Rear springs are original and work just fine. Frame is original, solid and was apparently blasted and painted during restoration. Truck sits low but never drags unless driven over a large speed bump way to quickly. The truck can be easily be raised if thats your preference. Wheels and tires were purchased used and separately (front and rear in pairs) as I had intended to put a newer more modern style of wheels but never decided on any. Rear tires are showing wear and the fronts are excellent. A new set of 17 inch wheels would probably look best. Drivetrain; A 70,000 mile 1997 Trans Am gave its life that this 1950 Chevy might live again. Even though the engine was low miles it has been overhauled professionally by a competent machine shop. Many parts were used from the T/A and many, many new parts were used as well. No expense was spared! Computer and brackets were from LT1 experts at STREET & PERFORMANCE. Overdrive transmission works well and is also from the T/A, GM 4l60E. A top quality wiring system from WIRE WORKS was also used. Interior; Also very custom and mostly from the Trans Am including buckets, console, shifter. Nice cassette stereo and speakers except I cant figure out where to put an antenna. One important point to note is that the seats bolt directly to the floor which provides excellent headroom for a tall person. If however you are less than 6 feet tall you will simply need to raise the seats. Remember CUSTOM is the whole point of a street rod. Accessory's; Really to much to list but the basic run down is all power options such as power steering, power brakes, power windows and also air conditioning from VINTAGE AIR. Not to mention DAKOTA DIGITAL instruments. Original vacuum wipers are now electric as is the high performance water pump for the LT1 (Meinzere). Coolant is waterless EVANS. LOOK at the pictures, no expense spared! This truck is titled in my name. It has an assigned vehicle identification number in the state of Oklahoma and has had this number for many years (15 or more) and reflects on vehicle and the title. I've driven the truck regularly for 7 years and have accumulated the 14,000 miles currently on the odometer. While I've driven on both the street and highway I've never pushed it beyond about a 100 miles at highway speed. Personally I wouldn't try to drive any street rod on a 500 mile trip but I expect it would make it. In person inspections and test drives are welcomed. Reasonable questions are welcomed.
