This is a rare and amazingly good 1968 Mercedes 250 SL which has been well maintained and always garaged when not in use and is offered for sale by the second owner of 20 years. The pictures speak well for this sporty vehicle. It drives and handles well. The original engine has 117,000 miles and the 4-speed manual transmission is in excellent condition and shifts smooth. This car is a head-turner! Body: The body is all original, has a few minor door dings, paint job is showing its age and needs repainted. Specifically, it has some lacquer cracks on the hood and trunk surfaces and paint blisters on the roof, but still shiny on the sides. Despite needing a paint job, it shows well. The soft top window is perfect and the top itself and the mechanical parts are in good working condition, with the exception of three frayed areas around the edges (see the pictures). The typical areas such as quarter panels and trunk panels are absolutely free of rust. There is a dime size rust spot in the floor pan on the driver's side center. Other than this spot the floor pans are in solid condition. This is the only rust to be found on this vehicle. Interior: Everything is original and working. No missing pieces. Dash is excellent. There is a 2 inch tear at the seam in the driver's side seat back. Chrome on the windshield wipers, horn ring, rear view mirror and door strikers peg this as being produced in January of 1967. Carpet is good, no tears, but showing its age. Engine runs well, and the compartment is clean. Drivetrain has all new steering linkages, ball joints, brakes and shocks.This vehicle can be driven as is, or easily restored. Minor cosmetic repairs, a new paint job and a repair of the rust spot would easily bring this Mercedes to show quality.
