Vehicle Detail
1970 Pontiac GTO 455HO Judge tribute VIN#: 212370P151289 Mileage 37057 Cowel tag: ST 70 24237 PNO 050313 BDY TR 256 59 4848 PNT 10 D Brief history This 1970 GTO was originally built in Pontiac Michigan on the 4th week of October 1969. It was ordered with very basic equipment. Most options were performance oriented like the factory installed hood tachometer, turbo 400 transmission and 400 4 bbl engine. It has non power assisted 4 wheel drum brakes and vairable ratio power steering. The factory 140 MPH speedometer and factory 8000 RPM hood tachometer both work. All lights, turn signals wipers and ventilation system work correctly. The factory AM radio is installed but does not work.. Engine The original 400 4 bbl engine was replaced with a rebuilt 1970 455 HO code XF engine with 4 bolt main caps when I purchased it 2 years ago. I don't have a mileage figure on the rebuild, but judging from the cleanliness of the engine, it was recent. See picture. The factory rated this engine at 370HP @ 4,600 RPM with 500 ft lbs of torque @ 3,100 RPM. This rebuilt engine produces more grunt than the any of the factory's offerings. The car is very fast, yet gets good mileage. I drove from Reno to the Bay Area and only used 1/2 tank of gas. The rare #64 HO cylinder heads are the only high compression heads ever offered on any Pontiac 455, and only produced in 1970. They feature 2.11" intake valves, and 1.77" exhaust valves and screw in studs. The 87cc combustion chambers net a factory compression ratio of 10.25:1. Each cylinder pumps out 180 psi with less than a 3% variation. Note: 1970 was the first year for HO engine. The cylinder head is a "D" port configuration. Round ports were used on the 71,72 HO. The engine features a Comp Cams Xtreame Energy 262 camshaft with the following specifications: Excellent response, good mid-range, noticeable idle. Operating Range:1300-5600 RPMDuration Advertised:262° Intake / 270° ExhaustDuration @ .050'' Lift:218° Intake / 224° ExhaustValve Lift w/1.5 Rockers:.462'' Intake / .469'' ExhaustLobe Separation Angle:110° 1.5 Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller rocker arms open the valve train. Hooker headers were chosen in place of the factory Ram Air exhaust manifolds and empty into dual FlowMaster mufflers with a exhaust crossover and full tail pipes.
