Sales Tax and Registration: If you are a resident of Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Arizona, California, or Washington, you must pay 6% sales tax in addition to the agreed upon purchase price of the vehicle. You will not get double taxed when you return to your state if you have already paid sales tax in KY. There is a $90 registration fee added to the price of each vehicle. Example: $5000 negotiated purchase price on a car, add $300 sales tax plus $90 registration/dealer fee for a total of $5390 upon delivery. Minus any deposits obviously. Most dealers charge upwards of $225 as a dealer/registration fee, $90 is very reasonable.
Insurance: The person purchasing the vehicle must have written proof provided to us by the auto insurance company or with their letterhead on it provided by you or them that the person purchasing the vehicle currently has the state minimum auto insurance on another vehicle, or that the vehicle being purchased has been insured. If you currently have insurance on another vehicle it takes 15 minutes to add an additional vehicle to the policy which includes the insurance company faxing or emailing us proof of coverage. A current insurance card will be fine. If you cannot provide proof of insurance, then the car will be transferred to you title only, with no license plate, making it illegal to drive on public roads. This is the same procedure as any other dealer will do, we just write it out clearly before the purchase process begins.
IF THE PERSON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE CANNOT PROVIDE PROOF OF CURRENT INSURANCE, YOU WILL NOT BE GIVEN ANY TYPE OF LICENSE PLATE FOR THE VEHICLE. PLEASE COME PREPARED, AND CALL ANYTIME WITH QUESTIONS.
