Vehicle Detail

What would a Vanagon Westfalia be like if it were built in 2010. It would definitely have many of the following features As you can see from the pictures that accompany this listing, this Westy was completely disassembled and meticulously reassembled using new or updated OEM parts except where more modern alternative parts would improve performance. Particular attention has been paid to the ride and handling characteristics. Notably the tires and rims have been exchanged for Mercedes Benz E Class 17" rims and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. This doubled the rubber on the road and widened the tire track by 4 inches which substantially stiffened the ride of the Westy without effecting the tire clearance, final drive ratio, gas mileage or comfort. What it did do was take this Westy from handling like an old camper to performing like a modern touring car The suspension work includes new upper control arm bushings, upper ball joints, tie rod ends and P/S rack bushings, all new brakes and rear cylinders and a set of HD Bilsteins front and rear...nearly $4000 in parts alone including bearings, seals and alignment. The body was stripped of all parts including the pop-top, before going to the paint shop. There was minimal body dents and as is typical with CA Vanagons, no rust. The paint is OEM Dove Blue 2 stage paint. The pop-top has a new 3 window GoWesty acrylic tent. A custom ladder, frame mounted trailer hitch and front air dam spoiler have been added for safety and convenience. Nearly every piece of rubber from window frame gaskets, door handle gaskets, windshield wipers and washers, pop-top, cargo rack and skylight gaskets have been replaced for a quieter ride. The interior was removed during painting. This allowed for all equipment and cabinets to be cleaned and rebuilt as needed including all new water lines. The windows have been Limo tinted for privacy and reduced UV damage and heat and all the curtains were dry cleaned. The dash was removed and the blower unit replaced with a Carat defrost/heater blower for better ventilation, the stereo was rewired, new 12V power port, and all vent levers adjusted and hoses cleaned. There is a full set of GoWesty floor mats, new Kenwood speakers and a new Kenwood Ipod, satellite ready Deck installed. Also installed is a new second battery system, 1500 watt inverter and new Thetford Port-a-Potty. The engine and trans are in excellent condition with no known problems or leaks and passes CA smog with new cat, muffler and tune up. This Westy will travel at 70 MPH and still get 19 - 20 MPG. All the new rubber and suspension provide for a quiet freeway ride. The A/C blows cold and the heaters blow hot and all the vents work for comfortable touring. This gorgeous Westy is FUN to drive.
